interesting fact - your gut contains as many or more neurons (ie "brain cells") as does your brain ... Listen carefully about what it's telling you is good to eat - or not.

As a member of a family of medics I can tell you that statement is most certainly not ture :)

Also BTW, Neurones are not Brain cells, they are 'all' nerve cells. The are three main types: Motor, Relay and Sensory.

hi Tom :)

Statement re # of neurons in gut vs brain is IMO maybe debatable, but your'e probably right - and point about definition of neuron is a good start! (was using more colloquial short-hand to get my point across)

(and for me, well ... just speaking from point of view of someone who got their undergrad degree in Behavioral Biology from Johns Hopkins, disected plenty of brains, put a few in blenders and then in test tubes mixed with radioactive ligands to see what stuck where ... worked for a neurologist for 2 years ... almost got married to an MD/PhD student doing her doctoral research in ingestive behavior ... but okay, all that doesn't prove anything - plenty of highly educated and totally delusional people in the sciences, claiming "proof by authority" for their opinions stated as incontrovertible "facts".)

Haven't looked at the research for a few years, but last I heard there were at least 100 million neurons known to exist in the human enteric nervous system (some interesting, accessible reading here -> http://whyfiles.org/026fear/physio1.html and here -> http://whyfiles.org/026fear/physio1.html ) so maybe that number is more in line with comparison to the spinal cord ...

checking teh google now for current estimates on number of neurons in the brain -> http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2002/AniciaNdabahaliye2.shtml

looks like best guess now is closer to 100 billion neurons thought to exist in the human brain - and then there are the even more numerous "glial" cells - which used to be considered mainly just a metabolic support system for neurons, but have more recently been shown to be capable of some information processing as well ...

alrighty then ... harrumph! Seems that I was a bit glib parroting what my gf-at-the-time's boss was fond of telling everyone who would listen - good catch Clowesy - it's a fair cop!

So I guess bottom line from all the above brain/gut analysis is that premium LLLL.net may be a decent long-term (somewhat speculative) investment though probably with more limited upside, and that the brain may in fact be smarter than the gut all around - though the gut is certainly no dummy in some specialized problem spaces - and a lot of the speculative market action seems to run on "gut feel" at least in the short-term, so worth listening to that as well - it's not always the best move to be "smarter" than the rest of the market unless there's actually a good chance that the rest of the market will eventually wise up in time for you to turn a profit rather than go broke paying reg fees ...!

good stuff ...

thanks Tom - IMO anyone offended by a friendly correction probably deserves to be offended as much as possible on a regular basis! No percentage in being shy about sharing the facts you know to be true, always a good instinct to speak up and question the "authoritah" de joure if they're spouting a bit of BS by accident or on purpose. If you hadn't posted that, I might have just gone on believing/repeating that questionable claim - and that would be truly embarrassing for me sooner or later. So, very much appreciate your correction sooner rather than later!

Looking forward to seeing the state of the LLLL.net universe as reflected in your new list - if I'm wrong with my instinct to mostly pass on buying up this one for now, then will be happy to know that sooner rather than later as well! (And do plan on regging the few that actually make good sense to both my gut and my brain.) :)

Ok guys, youve cried, youve anguished, youve lost sleep waiting for this moment.
The grand presentation of my LLLL.nets
I am stopping regging these now, even though i know for a FACT these will be worth way more than reg fee in a year. Its annoying, even though you know you cant lose, you cant push yourself to invest more :(

Never call a man a fool; borrow from him. - Addison Mizner

actually finding quite a few "oooh shiny" LLLL.net critters out there ... I don't know about this CVCV/VCVC babytalk "pronounceable" silliness though, just mostly going for a few premium acronyms - for instance, was psyched to see NMRI show up in my "filter" ... :sold:

so far, name.com @ 5.99 seems to be lowest price for .net regs

- but I'll pay the extra nickel to reg them at moniker for 6.04

godaddy gdm1126b discount code is supposedly good for a "$6" .net reg, but I see now that's actually $6.19 after the alleged "icann fee" gets tacked on ... :'(

anyone have a lead on any other decent registrars with good .net reg fees ?

I'm a Domain reseller with resellerclub so i'm getting a $4.99 price
to register .NET through my own reseller site www.PolarNames.com
but i offer to my customers a $5.99 price.

Fabulous.com - .NET - Wholesale price - $5.15

I decided:

I`m NOT going to buy LLLL.net because:

I`m going to chase the big buyers who if they want a taken domain , they won`t have problem spending over the .com

If a buyer already complain about the price of the .com and starts to look at the .net version of the same name, it`s unlikely that is going to be happy to pay big money.

Plus, .com will increase more and more faster exactly like it`s happening for LLL.com instead of LLL.net

And on top of that: I just don`t like .net :yell:

:hehe:

Wish you guys all the best but think carefully and wisely.

dragon dragon... My dear Dragon, you miss'ed this scenario:

A potential .com brander, will pay BIG bucks for the .com and will buy up its .NET variant as well.

"since I have spent 100K for FoBa.com, and now what is 10K for FoBa.net, although I know this .NET bugger is extorting money"

:hehe:

(FoBa, an arbitrary example [short for foobar])

I`m going to chase the big buyers who if they want a taken domain , they won`t have problem spending over the .com
This proofs the point. what is 10K more to them

I am just daydreaming... so No flames :yell:

thanks for the info Johnny!

I just regged a few @ 5.99 at your PolarNames.com (nice site, good price, and I like the free privacy feature) so may be back for a few more when time & money allows :)

That's a good idea not buying LLLL.net. I actually don't encourage anyone to start buying LLLL.net at this stage.

I agree that .COM will increase quicker but every increase of .COM the .NET will probably have a value around 10% of that.

If the value of the .COM is going to be around let say between $2,000 - $5,000 I can only assume my .NET is probably have a value between $200 - $500

I don't mind having 10% value from the initial investament of only reg. fee.

I guess I'm an equal opportunity domainer there is always window of opportunity.

I will make sure I think carefully and invest wisely.

Thanks for the advise though and I'll you see around comdom. In the meantime let see what the netdom have store for me.

Anyone have the lists from M-T

I'm trying to tread lightly with llll .nets, but some of the them are irrestible, so I've picked up a few more. Hopefully I don't get stuck with a bunch of worthless names due to re-reg, this time next year, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

HI

I was watching LLL.net go on back order sites.. 4 years ago for $60-$120 and I was like yer ok,
now try to buy a good one for under $800 usd

All LLLL.com domains are gone and many crappy ones will drop over the next 12months
but the min price will be $10 resale in a domain forum like namepros.

So you can sit on the side if you like or invest now... I am buying now and will wait 2-3 years and see what happens,

What kind of llll.net domains am I buying now..

Here is an example of what I have bought

zdad.net
yyyl.net
xbed.net
wwwh.net
wowj.net
VETL.NET
vdad.net
rwow.net
rrrq.net
qqqz.net
qqqo.net
pupc.net

I am looking for domain names with a 3L word in them or 3 of the smae letter in them..

I have now collected close to 150 such domains... and I will see in 2-3 years what I can sell them for,

if you don't think they get some value by then move on to something else.

Thanks
Tom Dahne

With LLLL.net that actually mean something, develop a site on it and just let it sit. I actually picked one up that gets little bits of traffic. A site went up in 2 days since it stood for something.
