I've been grabbing a modest amount of LLLL.nets for the last week now. I'm starting to regret reprogramming my scanner, it keeps finding gems that I have to snap up.

Am I the only one here that thinks they wont sell out totally? I have a feeling it'll end up stopping at around the 70~80% mark.

The new end users you're talking about will go for the appropriate .coms first. I don't think there's enough of them coming fast enough to completely take up the .coms, and then create demand for the .nets aswell. Not for another few years anyway! (And I personally don't want to wait that long)

There is no doubt in my mind they will eventually sell out. How long it will take is anybody's guess, but at the current pace it looks to be around 2-3 years from now.

Several things can effect the rate of registration. As less names are available, the quality of those remaining drops, suggesting the rate might slow. But at the same time, more domainers will enter the field over time and prices will rise. This, along with the hype that will surely build as the buyout nears, may cause the rate to increase as we get closer.

One thing to remember is that domains bought now can/will have value even before the buyout. Quad premiums have only been gone less than 2 months and are already selling usually around 2x reg fee. Good triple premiums bought now can be a good investment even without relying on the buyout to push the price.
