I've seen a lot of threads with people asking if the 4 letter domain names in their portfolio are pronouceable. Maybe some bored programmer could come up with an online tool that give a LLLL.com domain a score out of 5. (5 being very pronounceable, 1 being shocking) Then we could just refer people interested to the site to work it out for themselves.

Pronounceability Score 5 could also be a good selling point.

You would need a set of defining parameters on what would allow a score for each domain. Then you can create 5 text lists of domains for each score and set up a programme that quickly scans the lists and tells you the score for a selected domain.

Would that kind of thing be easy to do and is anyone motivated to set it up? (Even if you didn't set up the parameters but worked with the 5 text lists)

Anyone else think that this would be very helpful?

Just an idea

That is a great idea! Would stop some of the nonsense whereby claims are made that domains such as xwhc.com are pronouncable!
Hope somebody takes up the challenge! :)

LoL... its a novel idea... but perhaps a bit overkill. I'm not so sure a script needs to be written to measure pronounceability for newcomers who cant figure out if its pronounceable or not. Not to mention you must consider foreign languages pronounce letters differently. So, something that may seem unpronounceable to an English speaker, may very well seem pronounceable to an Asian language...

Not possible. People which are asking would not accept that XPTZ is unpronounceable.

Agree with Spade

It would be almost impossible to program an algorithm and it is too subjective. As a basic guideline, if you have to explain how to pronounce it, it isn't pronounceable.

Good point.

Yep.

I think Estibot factors in pronouncability.

But domain sellers will always puff their wares - look at the use of the term "Premium Domain".

pronounceable in which language?
for me, this is the first thing to think about
there r many that r pronounceable in other language than english... ive read some threads about chinese saying that Q is a popular letter (thats just an example) and we know there r some people here that r and speak chinese
i know, i know... english is what we r discussing here but i think we should think about this :imho:

BTW, my mother language is portuguese (im brazilian) and very often some r pronounceable for me and arent for u

an example of a common chinese last name:
Ng

this one does not have a vowel, but it is pronounceable.

in that case Vurg.com would probably get a 5

but you do realized that many newbies are absolutely hell bent on proving that ztji.com is pronounceable?

Yes. Very true. On top, we need to be careful in choosing which is pronounceable by our own language.

good idea but Spade is right.

I had some interest for:

UXYL.com saying it sounded like poker in his language.....go figure! I still don`t know which language was it!

Thanks for all the feedback.

I agree that it would be biased but I think a well thought out scale could give a better answer than many answers people get.

It's just an idea that I thought about working on and decided that it was too much work. (Like most of my ideas)

I also am most interested in domains that are brandable in English.
