Anyone put their domain name as a licence plate number? I have thought about it. I think it has great potential as it is a once of payment for advertising and to promote a site and the advertising goes for years. I may travel 20000+ km a year and so that is a lot of advertising if I use the domain for 10+ years. When I contacted the licencing people, they told me that they wouldn't put a dot in the name. They allow a dot in the middle of the plate to preceed 3 numbers but not 3 letters. They also allow a nine letter sequence.

I could do VURG, VURGCOM or 2Z3DOTCOM but not VURG.COM or VURGDOTCOM (limit of 9 letters).

I really like the idea of a domain name on a licence plate!

hmm, my domain names are too long for a licence plate, how about making a bumpersticker in photoshop and printing it out on sticky paper and putting it on your car?

good idea, but wouldn't be as effective as on a numberplate... here in my state (QLD) of Aus, we only have 3 numbers and 3 letters, so very short number plates.

I use one of my domains on my plate...people recognize the name right away but don't know it's a site.

A while ago I saw DNS 255.

An LLL or LLLL with com would be interesting.

Hint:
Get a "VURG COM" (VURG<space>COM) and make your own "." - don't paint it though, make a little sticker, so it's easy to peel off if you have to.

Not sure but may be against the law? Defacing? Better check that out first...or say to the officer "my friends must have done that as a joke!" or "OH I thought that was a piece of dirt!" :hehe:

My boyfriend just surprised me with some vinyl decals of my home site kerrij.com (site needs to be updated if you happen to visit it!) which I will be putting on my car's back window. A couple are quite large in size, I may ask my cousin to put one on her racecar. :)

It's against the law to get covers for your licence plate ( like to make it look like a different color) but people do it anyway. A little dot woln't send you to jail.

Me too but it's not likely to happen unfortunately :td:

However, having stickers/decals of your web address on your car has got to be one of the cheapest forms of advertising IMO.

I had about 500 done for our local town website and gave them out to visitors, friends and any locals who would like to help advertise local tourism.

well worth doing

ps - Anyone from Mount Dora here at NP's ?

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe make a little dot out of mud or something and let it dry so you don't get into trouble, as it would just be dirt ;)

offline advertising has always sparked my curiosity.

Bah! I just write my domain names on bathroom walls. :hehe: j/k
Actually the license plate is a good idea if you have a short enough name to fit and comply with local regulations! I have seen people with their websites on t-shirts and thought that would be a good idea.

when I travel, I always notice the personal dirty ads in the bathroom toilet door, but I have not seen any domain ads there.
