So the deal is i'm planning the logistics and programming/development of a new .info network which will basically cover a certain niche. I'm going to start out developing one network, likely English soccer teams, and then depending on the success, move on to other niches.
My question though at this point is what legal problems might I encounter if I were to own and operate team names, band names, celebrity names etc. in .info extension - for example ManchesterUnited.info - and on this minisite supply RSS feeds for news, club info, squad info and perhaps an affiliate store for Manchester United goods. While I might integrate an AdSense banner here and there I wouldn't be attempting to downgrade or misrepresent the team (brand) in any way. This would distinctly not be classified as a not-for-profit project as I would be attempting to build up a revenue generating network, but at the same time, provide a quality resource about the subject.
From what I hear most brands are fairly open to pro-brand 'fansites' but I was wondering what you guys thought on the matter? Also, perhaps brand management is different in each potential niche, maybe music artists are more protective of their brand?
Any thoughts are welcome. Just thought I should put this up by for I delved to far into what could be an ultimately pointless project.
Cheers,
James
