Learning to appraise a domains value

New here, and new to domains. Hello everyone! :hi:

I've listed a few at Sedo, to learn the process. They suggest an appraised value for the domain when you are listing it.
Does that value offered by Sedo have any merit?

I listed TheProfitTrade.com which they evaluated at: $499.99
That sounds high to me. I have other domains that were evaluated at $299.00 that I thought would be less.
My aim is to sell domains between $200. and $500. and according to Sedo, I'm on the right track.

What else do I need to do to learn to appraise the value of a domain.

Thanks!

If I'm not wrong, Sedo's minimum suggested price for any domain it's $299. Do not trust automatic appraisals.

Thanks for the reply.

I found the Appraise Domains discussion section here, after I posted this question. In the future I'll post this kind of question there.
Would TheProfitTrade.com be worth a few hundred dollars, with 2 keywords in it?

I'm not sure what to do to learn this kind of thing.
Thanks

I have no enough knowledge to appraise domains. Ask the experts in the appraisal section.

Many factors go into appraising a domain name, but bear in mind that even the best appraisal is really just an educated guess.

It wouldnt be unreasonable to ask $499.99 for this name if a motivated enduser approached you.

Finding that person yourself would probably be exceedingly difficult.

Which would heavily factor in a human based appraisal.

Which is why this name would get $0-X in the appraisal section.

Well, the first question to ask yourself is: are there end users for that domain ?

How much is your domain worth if nobody wants it ?

More questions:
If that domain is so great, why was it still available for $10, and what makes you think you easily sell it for a significant profit ?

Why would I even give you $100 if I can find another domain name that is still available and of similar quality (or better) ?

Automated appraisals are worthless, and even an educated, human appraisal is always a best-case scenario. Doesn't mean the domain will ever sell. Domain names are not liquid assets in general.

It's great to get this feedback from all of you. I appreciate the new perspective I'm gaining.
Thank you!

If you knew value of a domain name then think that you are a good domain name buyer and seller...

Hi

in general, i devalue all domain names using "the" as prefix

however, sometimes it works

personal experience: i own organicwinecompany com and this other site is theorganicwinecompany com

we are both on 1st pg of G for keywords, but they are listed above me.

the good news is they've tried to buy my name a few times

and the bad news for you is, if you build a site, traffic will leak to domain without the, "the".

:)

Good Luck!
