been looking to reg a few .la domains (los angeles ) any thoughts on the future of the .la tld thx.

I think they will be like any other in their class...great if you have good keywords but mediocre at best IMO.

My thoughts as well... with the exception of .ws (I'm speaking of branding/marketing) and one or two others, most ccTLDs have a tough time overall.

A matter of time - but who knows how long and time is expensive in LaLa land.

I think .LA has one of the best potentials of the country code (CC) domains. It does mean something - a region (really two - Los Angeles and Louisiana) and the real meaning - Laos - is a country that has a lot of people and may someday have a strong internal market. Yet there are risks here that do not exist in .com.

As stated above, CC domains do not get much attention now. I think that is changing as the .com space gets more expensive, but it will be a while. I have a few nice .LA domains which I intend to keep, and hope to eventually sell high, but have decided to minimize my exposure and have the bulk of my holdings elsewhere.

Mostly into gtlds myself but I have two .la’s I decided to keep, just because I like the look of them. LA is a well known and widely used acronym, together with the right keywords it can constitute a strong search term. Think the tld may show some strength in terms of development.

I don't have or plan to get an .la domains. I do think some of the top keywords would have value in just about any TLD. The question is whether PPC or even development will pay for reg and renewal fees.

Actually, I think whoever is promoting (or supposed to be promoting) .la as Los Angeles is pretty short sighted. Yes, L.A. Is a big city. However, I think there could be a much larger market promoting it as Latin America (think .eu or .asia), and covering parts of two continents instead of one city.

I think once mobile internet devices completely take over our society, people will get used to typing something other than .com (presumably .mobi). And, once people stop associating .com with the be-all and end-all of the internet - then, the other top-level-domains will start to see some significant rise in usage and value. But, it will take something to knock .com off it's throne...

The domains I have get a handfull of views per month. I would consider .LA domains a price appreciation or development buy, not PPC.

You know, the registry's site says ".LA is the official internet address for Los Angeles, the world's first city to receive this accolade," which is wishful thinking or false advertising, depends on your mood. I have seen previous registry pronouncements pushing the Latin America and Louisiana angles also.

The registry is, I believe, Affilias, the same folks bringing us .info (and .org??). They do not seem very interested in promoting .LA, few registrars have it available, although the number is growing.

.LA is kinda worthless I'd say. Not only Los Angeles is a really small target audience (one city, even if it is big, is nothing compared to the target audience of .com, .tv, ...) but also local citizens will quite likely prefer .com or .us. Also, .LA is really the Laos domain, and as soon as the Laos government wants its toy back, all .LA owners could be seriously let down... The risk is high, the price is high, the attraction is low. And claiming that LA is the 'first city with its own extention' is very false advertising and I wonder if it is not even against the rules to promote a product this way.
