We all here use Domains, but we are not all domainers. I think if people know who they are it stops all the debates about .us sucks or PARKING Pages suck.

I believe there are three Big groups with many sub groups beneath

But I see it as

Domainer: someone who makes their living off the monetization and buying and selling of domains. Here type ins matter, Parking is not ugly.

Developer: Also uses domains in his trade but can make do with two word .infos or a domain hack such as del.icio.us Search Engines matter, Parking is Ugly, Here .whatever does not suck

Hobbyist: also using domains but as a small time hobby for enjoyment to maybe make a couple bucks who gets lost in the rhetoric of the other two groups.

SO WHO ARE YOU

I'm poor and lack development skills, so by default I fall into Hobbyist. Though I am working on developing a site... and who knows if I'll ever have the money to become a true domainer.

Currently 3 will be moving to the combination of 1 and 2 in a few years. Usually people in this industry do both 1 and 2 IMO.

Hobbyist--investor. I'm not to the point where I can retire off my domain portfolio just yet...

Developer - Entrepreneur actually.

Not that parking is all that ugly, but unless you entered the domain game early on, that chances of owning a pure type-in com that cranks out parking dollars is very remote (you can always buy-in with big $). As an entreprenuer/developer the ability to create niche brands and sites that draw traffic for E-comm and advertising is where it's at for me. COM still rules for the e-commerce sites, BUT if a great keyword that fits the extension and is intitive is available it's pretty easy to build around that too.

Hmmmm... I consider myself an investor... but if I had to choose from the selections, I'd have to go with both 1 and 2.

Hobbyist who likes to develope and sell domain names. :D

I take ideas from all of them but I don't really fit into any of them. I think I'm 50% developer, 20% domainer, 20% hobbyist and 10% freak of nature.

If domaining, developing and hobbying all got together and had a baby, that'd be me. :p

Un mutt.
In life, and in domains ;)
Fancy myself to be a developer, but my collection showing a small percentage of actually developed sites points to domainer, while my buying patterns point to hobbyist ;)

Ok, lets all get the dose of reality needed here.
An important option was (intentionaly?) left out of the choices.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Hello, my name is Cyberian, and I am a domainoholic.

There, see how easy that was?
Now you try it.
Really, you'll feel soooooo much better.
I know I did.

Peace,
Cyberian

Hobbyist. I don't think domains will ever be my main source of income, but they are a nice bonus. ;)
