Hello I hope all is good! I am new to domaining. I have about 230 domains. I was a marketing major in college so I feel pretty good about the quality of my names. I did a massive amount of research. All the major brokers accepted my applications and I'm in with Domain Name Sales, Sedo, Godaddy,Afternic and Flippa and several brokers.

My gut tells me it not too difficult to find a good,short brandable 2 word domain. The KEY question is how hard is it to sell? Most of my prices are above $2500 I'm listed on the sites I mentioned above with all "buy it now" listings. Also, I'll be doing 7 day auctions with Godaddy . 230 domains times 52 weeks equal 10,000 plus auctions in a year.

At what price do domains sell for quick ? Do domains price above $2500 sell quick? What can I expect? Is it better to sell 100 domains at $300 each ($30k) each or is it better hoping and waiting for a few $30k sales from a broker? Are there people that have sales every day? Or is selling very hard?

I will be brutally honest and take it as constructive criticism

For someone who is new to domaining, registering 230 domains is a huge mistake, a better strategy would be to register 5-10 names in a niche you are familair with or select a niche and research until you know it well, and I mean well..like the following

Get a list of potrntial end0users before registyerign the domain, no use gettign a domai nadn then you cant find any potential buyers

Check namebio and dnjournal to see if there are any similar sales

If these 230 names are hand registered names, the chances are you will not be able to flip them quickly (if at all) and definitely not for $2500

Selling domains is not easy and takes a lot of research before you register a domain, and then a lot of research to find potential buyers as well

You can list them on Godaddy, Sedo and Afternic auctions but you will not get top dollar and most will end up being sold to domainers just like you

I would be careful registering too many names, because 12 months goes by very quickly and suddenly you have 230 x $10 in renewal fees

Thank for your honesty. I used name bio on all my selections. I also used estibot , freevaluator , wikipedia's most expensive domain list and dn journal. I am very confident in the quality of the names as repeated by the major brokers that I'm working with on a commision basis. The key question I'm asking is how hard is it to sell? According to Sedo 47% of domains sell for under $500, the next 40% sell for under $2500. Only 1% sell for over $50k.Also do you know the Internet is growing exponentially. The Internet will be 10 times larger then it is today by the year 2020. Imaging the value of a .Com by then, if you sit and hold on good names.

Depending on quality of your domains and selling skills.
There's no 42 answer here.
I might agree here with gilescoley, starting as a new domainer last year I registered a lot of pigeon shit myself, before I figured what sells.
Well known advices are:

- Don't hand-register 250 domains, buy 1 good domains for $2500 or 10 for $250 that has well recognized value and can grow it in future.
- Pay attention which way market is going, constantly check sales stats at Goldnames, namebio, etc.
- Stay away from riskier waters of New TLDs and try to stick to .com/.net and liquid domains, LLLL, numbers.

This is also the biggest mistake a new domainer can make, dont use these automated tools...EVER!!

They trick new domainers into thinking their domainer is worth $5k, when the truth is its worth $0, unfortunately you only find that our after wasting your time sending out emails to people and finding there is no interest at all

Did you hand register these names, I so, I can assure you they wont be top names, especially 230 of them. If the names are really good names, you will be having sales this week, especially if you have top brokers selling them for you. When you find a name available and you think its valuable, always ask yourself this question

"Why is this name available if there are thousands and thousands of domainers searching for names every day?"

I am pretty new too. Unless you have premium names that are obviously 10k+ value, most people will say it's worth 0. You'll probably think the same of their domains too, lol. I agree with picking a niche. Something you are truly passionate and knowledgeable of. Find/make a niche thread and you'll probably get more positive feedbacks.I think handreg is awesome, but you will make mistakes too...I can't guarantee 200+ registrations is a mistake, but likely. Personally I like to reg domains then email potential end-users. I don't think I'd ever try brandables, and not because I don't think they'd be good / accepted...it just doesn't interest me. I don't like knowing I wont sell most of them in my lifetime.

I have around the same number of domains, started around 4 months ago,all hand regged and I have promised myself that I will not pay more than reg fee for one domain in my first year, because is easy to pay a few grands for one domain which you think is good and make a big loss. I had a few offers from low xxx to low xxxx, but I don't want to hurry up. I know for sure that between 50 and 100 of my domains don't have any value, but you cant learn if you don't make mistakes. I have 20+ domains accepted at BB and NR at prices from low 1xxx to 6xxx , or others like: Motorkite(com) adopte.org, Simba.co credited.co , acronyms with a lot of views on org and eu. All together, only by my offers, I could already double my money, so it's possible to make money with hand reggeds and as a beginner , if you learn enough.

Yeah the question isn't about me.... its about the domain sales market. I hear sales of 1% to 2% of your portfolio is good.

Very hard...

That's the reality too, few domains sell for huge amounts. Unless you started domaining early and could handreg LL/LLL.com and the like.
Sales are the exception, not the norm.
