.tv Keepin it Real...

For a longtime now I have been thinking of writing this post. Many forums I visit seem to put our .tv extension down and this annoys me from time to time. They cannot see past .com. The real real visionaries where those who bought .coms in the early days of the extension and held on to them. It takes a real visionary to buy a .TV extension. Many times on other forums I see "what made you buy that" and there is nothing wrong with the domain. Guess what folks, we are still in the early days of .TV but the gap is closing in. Hold on to what you have and develop those you can. As wineguy has said, people will come to your site if you have something interesting to show them. I have some .tvs that are getting around 500 uniques a month and they are parked. Imagine if I offered something. I request all newcomers to refrain from asking for appraisals unless you have something developed to show because any answer you will get really means nothing, IMO

Keep up the creativity!! Who would have ever thought the day would come when someone could make a post sitting in his car on his handheld!! I am right now!! Soon I will be able to watch streaming video on it as well!

I may be wrong about this, but I always thought that .TV domains were operated by Verisign and that they can raise the renewal cost of any particular domain to whatever they wish. So if they see that a particular domain is doing well, they can raise the renewal fee to some crazy number.

For example, business.tv, news.tv cost $1mil/year. If I was developing a serious site and investing my time and there was potential that I may have to pay some crazy renewal fee I would not use .TV.

That's why I stayed away from it, but otherwise I think it's a solid extension that will do well in the future if it's not killed by the verisign greed.

First off SKG I love the fact that most dismiss it, one of my favorite things about the extension. It is not a domainer extension, especially not in Verisigns Eyes who I have spoken to many there about this, they have even used the line we don't want domainers. Their stats for domains regged with them state that over 70% of the domains are developed. Now that makes sense since people with them are paying premiums. Plenty of .tv get traffic, KIds.tv gets between 150 and 200 a day, I know sexy.tv owned by ELEQUA gets more than that. I own SIX.tv which makes $3 to $4 a day and SECHS.tv gets over 1800 uniques a month. That does not matter the extension is for if you have an idea that is rich in multimedia or IPTV themed.


LUC they will not raise the rates if you have a non premium name it is not even regged with them so they have no way of following the domain. Premium domains will not go up while you have them regged. When you reg a premium it is a minimum two year registration. When that is expiring you can renew at the same price no increase. NOW if someone regged a premium and then dropped it the price could be higher or lower for the next person to reg the domain.
