Can I have an appraisal please?

karibu.mobi

karibu means welcome in Swahilli.

Mobile technology market is growing very fast in Africa. The cell phone is the single most transformative technology for development, and could play a very important paper in Africa emerging nations, specially Kenya and Tanzania.
Swahili is a lingua franca of much of East Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is a national or official language of four nations, and is the only African language among the official working languages of the African Union.

Thanks

Looks like a great name to build a wonderful welcoming website on. The business minded will point out that the potential market has very little money. The big hearted will reply that the potential for social change is fantastic.

Lots of potential - education, health information, local news. Whatever the people need.

I do not like the term "developing world" - many of those cultures have important (indeed critical) things to teach us. Perhaps the welcome can become two ways.

There is another thread about the mobile web and the less wealthy nations:

Welcome monstruil

This is one that could do well in the long haul. A nice, generic term that has mobile relevance. If you're looking to flip it quick, I'm not too sure you'll find a buyer wanting to fork over much more than low XX. If you're patient though and can keep it through several years, it might just continue to build in value. It does have a lot of potential.

Welcome to the world of mobi "speculation".... :)

Do you plan on developing a site on it or just wait for an offer?

Best of luck!

thanks

Many thanks to all who gave an answer.
This is my first domain experience and my intention is to sell the name...maybe just to convince myself that domain speculation could be a good business. I obiously want to sell it for a reasonable price based on it's secure and great future potential, not on it's actual price. I'ts a good idea to put it in a parking?
Some of you are interested?

As a stand alone name, I'm afraid parking it will get you little, if any income. First off, the word karibu has a wordtracker score of 14... :td: Not much hope of getting people randomly typing it in if they're not already looking for it in a dot com, much less a mobi. Parking for just about any mobi name is tough. I have some wordtracker / overture score mobis of over 25,000 that get maybe about 10 views an average month. At this early stage in the game, the masses just don't know about mobi so don't expect much in random type ins, :imho:

Again, if you have the patience and belief (and $$ for re-newals), you might be OK with it, but I can't see anyone making an offer on it in the next year or two. I think a name like that is a long shot that will take years to recoup. But you never know...10 years from now, it might bring in a nice sum.

I would suggest to look into the aftermarket to pick up a name or two (the mobi marketplace is a good start). You have to sift through the dirt to find the gold nuggets, but they're out there! Good deals can be had for some really decent names. It's a buyers market. Take advantage of it while it lasts.

The chances of nabbing a great reg-fee name and flipping it for a tidy profit are really slim by now. But in the aftermarket, you can usually find something decent for less than what you'll pay for a dinner out.

Good luck!
