During the last week or so, I have been working 18-20 hour days. While most of that work related to my own development projects and those of some clients I have taken on, I generally spend a few hours a day researching, reading articles, visiting different blogs...etc.
You might have read a recent article that I wrote: dot tv domain extension. I am still just as bullish on the dot extension as I was two years back in 06. I began looking into dot tv domains exactly two years ago and ultimately joined this forum in September of 06 when I felt like I could contribute something.
Since that time, a lot has happened. We have seen some real ups and downs and members come and go...the diehards have remained.
The domain marketplace has also grown considerably during that time, but its on the verge of entering a new growth stage (IMHO). While no single factor can be attributed for this, its clear the domain market has a long way to go before it reaches maturity (IMHO); but don't expect people to offer ridiculous prices for your premo domain...not yet anyway. The flurry of recent articles and reports in the media related to domain investing, development, and profiting seems to increase at greater rate every week.
This brings greater exposure to the industry and new blood. While the downside will be a bunch of noobs running around throwing money at just about anything they can get their hands on, I would hope that this will bring more disciplined investors and companies into the mix (and produce some as well). What does that mean? More demand! More demand = higher prices for those domains that have traffic and excellent keyword brandability.
What does that mean for you? If you don't have natural type-in traffic or your domain isn't an excellent keyword (news tv), then you SHOULD start developing your site to bring in traffic. This doesn't require that you develop full-time or that you must update your site every day (although its a good idea...search engines love it and reward you for it), but moving forward with SOMETHING is better than SITTING on something that just has mediocre potential. Mediocre potential does not bring home the bacon, but a domain with mediocre potential and HUGE traffic WILL.
I realize this is a domain name discussion forum for the most part, but I thought I would raise this flag to motivate you to look into different options because I know how so many of you want to be ahead of the curve when the dot tv extension (and even domain investing) hits critical mass.
