I want to build a web site for some of my "SMC" products I sell online. After I bought the name my wife mentioned it may be offensive. :alien:

The product is African art. Beautiful stuff I would gladly view as art and art alone. However I feel I should ask. If you don't mind ....here is the name. :)

Well I dont find the name offensive, and it seems to fit well with what you want to use it for.

Maybe others will have a different opinion though.

Good luck with your venture.

Unless the art pictures malnurished kids, or some form of graphic brutality, I find no offense. I assume your talking about fertility artworks... where the subjects are not engaged in "the act"... in that case I think the name is more cute -in a smirky kind of way, but not offensive... at least not to this African-American.

Maybe she is over conditioned from the media disclaimer that rolls just before a show that might be considered offensive to viewers.

โ€œThe following scenes may be graphic in natureโ€ or whatever the heck they say before showing the fight scene.

I donโ€™t see anything wrong with the name, but I wouldnโ€™t have even associated it with โ€œAfrican Artโ€. I would have thought it to be some type of illustration site.

What's the play on words? I don't get it. Unlike all the other posters, I don't know if it IS offensive to the potential customers you plan on marketing to, but I don't see a correlation to the GR and Africa. Without a clear message as to the play on the words, you MAY be treading on thin ice. IMHO.

Point well stated and teken. No Adult content at all would be sold. Thank you for the input.

Wow...I was so preoccupied with the controversy of the name I focussed on "Africa". A great suggestion to use generic market rather than specific.

I had'nt thought of that ...I was initialy looking for a name to sell products I already had in mund. However, as usual, the namepros members have opened my eyes to broader insights. Thank You all for your input.

lol....I work in the conventions and tradeshows industry. Funny you mention tip toeing. I have to be aware of even foriegn insights or offensive material. Example; The number 44 is bad luck in a certain culture. I once had to have over 100 crates and pallets pulled off several trucks and re-numberred and omittting any combination of "44" from all paper work. Afterwards I took them out for dinner at the MGM grand hotel and they freaked out when they realized the entry was a lions mouth.
I know about tip toeing... You must work in the public relations field :) And you are correct.

Happy Safe Holidays :)
