This is an email I received on one of my domains for sale at sedo?
It sounds very fishy---could anyone help?
Thanks

Hello,

Hope you have not sold your domain name :) I'm very interested in it. What is your price: 5,000 or 10,000 USD or even higher?

Please send your price.

Did you get offers from other people already?

I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Best regards,

Well, he wouldnt probably offer you for 5k, 10k or even higher if he doesnt know if you had any offer from other people. Anyways, doesnt seem like a typical scam, answer it friendly and see if they ask you for a paid appraisal.

I dont think anyone who ever wants to buy a domain mentions the price in the first email, they like to see if your interested in selling the domain or not. Even if someone did put the price in the first email they wouldnt leave it open like that so yes, 100% scam

Most likely scam, but you can tell him/her to make an offer on Sedo.

scam. i have read alredy a lot about this kind of emails at namepros forum. Scenario is always same:
i want to buy your domain. but i am not in domain business, i run other "software/medical/or whatever" company. Domaining is not my business. blah blah blah.
And then in next email he will ask you to appraise your domain at place he will show you, because "he cannot trust this or that companys appraisals". As a result you will order appraisal at his own company. He will make his $20 or whatever amount it will be, and will disapear, and you will still have your domain, and will fill used.

Oh, yeah I remembered now. So it's definitely scam. I've received couple of similar E-mails in French, told them to make an offer on Sedo, and then they just dragged on and talked about appraisals and stuff.

here is the response i got:

5,000 USD. Ok.

Do you offer a web site or domain name only? I'm mostly interested in names.

Do you have an appraisal certificate? Do you have an appraisal certificate? If not, you can obtain it within 24-48 hours and resend to me via email.

Domain name is an investment for me. In other words I'm going to sell your name later and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the future. It's very important for you and me to know the current market value of your domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. I will only accept appraisals from independent sources I trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum

http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/61048.htm

Juck check this posting.

If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. I also hope you can give me 10% - 15%discount of the appraised value because I need a room to make profit.

After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.PayPal.com, www.escrow.com, check or wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.

i think i will tell him i have upped it to 10,000 :)

i would answer that you will come down for $50 out of $5000, so he can go and appraise that domain by himself :) wherever he wants to.
