Is the overall trend for domains negative?

I was looking over domainjournal sales and noticed something. The last 3 years(2012-2014) the lowest sales in the top 100 were 65,000, 55,000 and 61,920. Now the 3 years before that(2009-2011) the lowest sales in the top 100 were 74,333, 81,000 and 73,500. The 100th place sale in 2008 was 100K.

Do you think that this indicates that domains as a whole are losing value? Do you expect this trend to reverse? Or continue?

As the best domains are at some time put to use, the average quality of the sold domains goes down too each year imo.

I agree with @Asfas1000

Each domain is unique. After selling sex.com, porn.com, and a few killer domains in the adult category, you can't get an equivalent for their replacement.

As good domains get put to use, there are lesser good domains on the market. The price range is definitely bound to fall.

It wouldn't be a shocker if more sales are now also private than before.

This doesn't indicate anything, a few lowest sales in the top 100 cannot dictate the market all by themselves. Looking at the median of all the sales, not necessarily the large 6-7 figure outliers is the best method to understand the market. Ron Jackson has an article on the current state of the market on his site, you should check it out. Great stuff, shout out to Ron!
