I own a domain name with namecheap but yesterday saw it for sale as a premium domain for $100,000 on godaddy. It is a good name but not that good. I talked to Afternic and he said that the domain's previous owner must have listed it and forgotten about it. Thing is I've owned the domain since 2002 and know I've checked on it on godaddy over the years and not seen it for sale. Is it possible someone more recently listed it trying to scam a buyer out of $100,000 even without access to the domain?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Well, if he sells it for 100000, he'll buy it from you for 5000 or 10000. Maybe even for a 1000 ))

People were doing it on a large scale on Afternic back in the past. Probably your name has been sitting there since that time.

But as long as you own the name you have nothing to worry about. And if it bothers you - reattach to AF, with their ownership verification.

Verification is not mandatory (if the domain isn't already listed), so Afternic's "must have happened" is just bullshit.

Drpshipping business model!!
I will not have any problem with this business model if the seller sell my domain for more and buy then from me through "his" website, or throught a marketing channel like email etc.. not through a marketplace like afternic!! or any marketplace.
and even afternic with FT and sedo with MLS are so dangerous, and can also be a scam attemp from the fake seller!!

Afternic does not require verification, for newly listed domain that are not previously listed in the platforme!!

You are right. I meant that before it they didn't have any kind of verification at all. Now at least it's automated for re-applied names.
In any case, nothing to worry about )

Same is happening on sedo I noticed. Some Chinese account selling hundreds (maybe thousands) of domains which are actually developed and definitely not owned by them.

Listing prices draw my attention... Way too cheap.

How they got around verification is beyond me.

It’s possible an outdated listing is still active or someone is trying to scam buyers. Contact the platform directly to request removal and ensure your domain isn’t being misrepresented.
