Dapp domains don't sell much. I've only seen about 2 note worthy sales. Your domains are not good, because they aren't exactly what people are looking for keyword wise. Dapps are just apps that are distributed, so consumers will never need to know what a dapp is. That leaves you with a dev community only market and because most of them are marketing to consumers they have no need for such domains. DLT keywords are like clouds in that they are mostly B2B targeted, so there may be a small handful of companies branding with the term dapp, but I don't think it's enough to justify many registrations by many domainers. DLT tech belongs in the background where the average person is completely unaware of their existence...that's where DLT belongs....in the background.

Your domains are mostly information type names that would be used to target people interested in making dapps. That is a very small market and most who would be interested in launching a site in that small area of the dapp industry would not expect to get a great return in that area, so spending 4 figures on such would not make sense from a profitability standpoint, so even if you were to sell a dapp domain, you can't have high price expectations. Dapps are a no go for me personally, but good luck.

My final advice for you is to drop all of these domains and try to purchase better ones, because those are domains that no one *needs*.

Dapp.Foundation sold for 5k I think...it's a one off and has a clear purpose....if you had dappfoundation ot org or dot com maybe they would have purchased it from you...who knows...

Very little opportunity for this keyword, but others may disagree...

It's just apps. Apps have already been revolutionary. Nothing new. Making them Distributed won't be anything that revolutionarily different on the front end for consumers to even notice the difference, so the word Dapp is purely a B2B and developer thing. You'll be lucky if you see even vaguely the amount of success "app" saw in the beginning of the smart phone era.

D does not stand for distributed. It stands for decentralized. You are clearly not knowledgeable on the subject. That's ok. I recommend reading up on Wikipedia and a search engine about it

It is becoming popular

Even if this becomes some sort of moderate sized niche, it feels like a billion dollar industry in its infancy

Thanks for starting the thread @Somertonian (by the way, I think your WhyDAPP name is pretty cute and effective) ! I know that there was at least one earlier DAPP thread, possibly more. As it turns out I have been working on a little article on DAPPs and domains but will not be finished for a bit. Will post link here when published. No doubt DAPP big trend and some market for both user/info and develeper/organization names. Some sales already, undoubtedly more to come. I would say time is ripe for those with good names. I started to collect a few dapp names earlier this year, two of which received offers after a few months.

sold one of the best dapp names I had last week for pennies on GD 7 day auction, burned my finger hard with that decision... but congrats for the buyer nevertheless

Being one of the earliest birds in the niche I'm obviously biased, but yes there is a great future for them

When i first got familiar with DApp, i picked up 'Dapptiv' in (dotcom).
I liked this one as a brandable, with it being a portmanteau of 'DApp' and 'Adaptive'.
I also have Daptitude in (dotcom), which doesn't exactly scream DApp but, is a nice blend of 'Adaptability' and 'Aptitude'.

As far DApp domains go, i would side with brandables, that would also make a short and catchy brand name.

I get those two words mixed up often. Investing in Dapp domains a couple years ago and forgot the exact wording. I learned and sharing what I know as a result.

Dapps are just decentralized apps. Apps are already a billion dollar industry....Why is this concept difficult for you to understand?

If you have an app with a database on a server and you move it to the cloud, do you think it's a new industry just because it's on the cloud??? No, it's the cloud that is new. So in the case of Dapps it's DLTs that are the new industry, not the apps. The word Dapp simply means that it's an app that utilizes a DLT.

Keep investing in Dapp domains if you want! Just remember this convo when you lose money.

The d is important because consumers don't want to be spied on by google or facebook. That's where the concept of dapps will get popular.

They aren't "just apps with a different backend"

The backend is very important in this case. People want to know they're getting a dapp when they search for one.

Thank you for the discussion, I have to say I agree with Domainguy50. I think as Blockchain technology and Cryptocurrencies evolve and mature they will eventually get to a stage when mass adoption becomes a realistic outcome. I am not entirely sure when that will be, but I think in the next 24 months give or take. I do agree with Winfluence that DApp domain names will only be of interest to a smallish niche group of people, the ones with the vision to create sites that will appeal to the masses. So I conclude that the next 6 months to a year is the time to be selling DApp domain names in preparation for an optimistic view of mass adoption in a couple of years.
