How Is AI Killing These Converter Domains — And Which Category Is Next?

Just yesterday morning, while logged in to X (formerly Twitter), I noticed a post where someone had shared their excitement about winning a converter domain at auction for $399. I congratulated the person, but honestly, I was surprised.

Why are domain investors still buying names like Converttopdf.com, Wordtopdf.com, Pdftojpeg.com, or ImagetoPDF.com — when these domains might not have a future at all?

A few years ago, people relied heavily on such websites for file conversions — Word to PDF, Image to WebP, PDF to Word, and so on. These domains worked because users searched on Google, clicked links, and those visits turned into ad revenue or leads.

But that behavior is changing fast.

Now, with ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot etc. users can simply type:

“Convert Words to PDF.”
“Convert PNG to WebP.”
“Make this image a PDF.”
“Turn this PDF into Word.”
“Convert kg to pounds.”
“Convert square meters to square miles and many more functions"

No website, no login, no ads, no downloads, no uploads to third-party unknown servers — just a single secure command. AI handles everything in seconds.

In my view, this process has already started eliminating the need for converter sites. If there’s no search, there’s no traffic — and no business. These types of domains could quietly fade out within the next 1–2 years.

Just a simple question for all of you —

is AI killing these converter domains slowly?
Are these types of domains still part of your portfolio?
Would you renew them if they remain unsold?
And which category will be the next victim of AI?

Would love to hear your thoughts and observations.
