Are you sure that Overwhelm.com was a bargain?

Although its poor form to sell a domain before you have it. I have several buyers I use frequently to turn some of my domains and I was offered several thousand for it already.

So... Yes, Im quite happy with the acquisition, and I value it much higher than I purchased it for.

The domain seems to be still with IREIT, what makes you think they will stay true to their mistake?

I am going to assume this is not an April fools thread, as I believe Spade lives in the US and of course he would not begin early.

Recession brings liquidity pressure on seemingly random companies. So seeing a few large holders selling assets may not have any relation to the domains themselves. But when Google and Yahoo change the way they pay for clicks those dependant on them can be SOL. And yes this could become a buyer's market with many nice domains being dumped, that happens in recessions.

.... With zero parking revenue or no way to judge its value, I feel it kinda makes it hard to put a price tag on domains if all this holds true in some way.....

Not all domains of value are traffic domains. Domain value can be based on the potential appeal of a name for a business website, as short domains already are. Of course that is a lot more difficult to calculate. BTW my parking revenue, small as it is with my LLLL.coms, is up this month.

The sky isn't falling. Fabulous has had their names listed with tdnam for quite awhile. They made an announcement about it long ago. They also confirmed this on the other forum. They are just using the platforms like everyone else. As far as IREIT is concerned it looks to me like they set all of their minimums at $500 so I'm assuming it was a mistake and they listed them at $500 min and $500 BIN. If not, of the $500 ones I saw they weren't worth regfee in my opinion so they are likely taking out the garbage.

Fabulous is also putting up for sale a large chunk of its portfolio.... Coincidense?

Just to correct any confusions, we are not in the process of "unloading" domain names. The article quoted:

With the announcement that Dark Deep Blue (Parent company of Fabulous) is planning to list several hundred thousand domain names through Godaddyโ€™s retail platform, it may suggest that both companies are seeing major drops in revenue and are cleaning house and changing monetization strategies. With both entering heavily into the retail sales game, there very well may be some great deals to have as both companies need to accurately price out several hundred thousand domains between the two of them, and this is no easy challenge.

Firstly, the parent company of Fabulous is Dark Blue Sea. Secondly, we have entered a partnership with GoDaddy, whereby they are selling our aftermarket domains as an inline registration process.

More information about the GoDaddy partnership can be viewed in our official announcement:

http://www.darkbluesea.com/announcements/295_GoDaddy_ASX_Announcement_7_March_(2).pdf

http://www.darkbluesea.com/announcements/296_Appendix_3B_GoDaddy_7_March.pdf

Basically there are three ways to make money through domain names, Traffic (parking revenue), Sales and Development. As the domain name industry evolves it is important to diversify your domain name business and not to sound clichรฉd, don't put all of your eggs in one basket.

As a company we have tried many different things over the years, some of these have worked, some have been not as successful. It is important to test different things and concentrate on those that have proven to work for you as an individual/company.

At the end of the day, we see the aftermarket domain sales industry as a valuable way of increasing overall revenue from our portfolio.

Cheers,

Mike

They have confirmed payment and agreed to it. Escrow had been updated earlier today. We are simply waiting on the push/account login info.

I'm grinning :) I just picked up a CVCV.com from them for under $500. Will reveal it in a day or so once it's all processed.

In regards to my above post I would like to clarify that I was in fact joking as I thought this thread was an April Fool's joke. I apologise for any confusion, I have not purchased any CVCV.com from iReit for $500.

Regards
David

In that case I think the April fool joke will last all year.... it looks like there could be a shake up in the market; Jeff could well be right; dotmobi names will never attain the heights of dotcom valuations...... but I bet it'll surprise a few people if dotcom valuations fall back towards dotmobi values! ;)

Really ?

Well I had a quick look at some of their names and I think they have a lot of junk (like buydomains), unless they get traffic I wouldn't take many of them for reg fee.
I guess they are trimming their portfolio to get rid of the poor names. Nothing wrong with taking a profit while streamlining your assets.

My thoughts exactly, maybe alot of the names previously had incoming links but looking at many of the (1000 ish names ) I looked at I cannot imagine they would get any/much natural traffic.

If you have thousands of names like that that don't pay for themselves each year it would fairly eat into any profits.

AKA ...Spring cleaning !

Although recessions don't really affect the Rich in the same way it does the Poor/Average person I think this is a great read !
