Bought a new .io domain through sedo last week a NN.io , bit of an investment and gamble but worth a shot in my opinion.

Anyone investing in .io domains? please feel free to share your investments.

Cheers

I like .io domains you reg for $32.88 and sell for $xxx to $xxxx within 6 months...but NOTE: domain shud be tech related,if u want good return.

u probably have more chance of sale for tech. and maybe quicker
but namebio shows all kinds of keywords selling for all kinds of amounts
and that's public sales only.
I think the tech only trend is changing for more general

Yes thats true.....More small startups are looking for .io names and .ly names ...But you never know when an enduser knocks your door and ask for your .io domain name.

How to figure out if a domain had a grandfathered backorder:

If you watch the IO droplist and you have a list of domains you were interested in and they show as taken, then use an actual whois lookup like gwhois.org and see how it shows up. If a registrar availability search shows "Taken" and the whois lookup shows "Not Found" then ICB is holding that domain from a grandfathered backorder. It seems to take them about a day after drop to update, and after that the whois will show Registrar: Internet Computer Bureau Ltd. and Pending Transfer. Days after that it will be transferred to the new owner at the registrar of their choice or stay at 101 Domain which is the Retail registry that ICB uses. Lemme know if that makes sense or I can do screenshots.

I see from namebio resent sales are about $150-500 (for non dictionary words / not well-known acronyms), but I guess those sales are auctions, and mostly acquired not by end users, but other domainers?

What do you think a non premium 3L is worth? I mean, if selling to a end user?

Guys what about NNN .io (chinese premium) sales / offers?
After 2 years 0 offers here.
And no traffic (1 view every 2/3 months).

Random 3L can be like a lottery ticket. If by chance you happen to hold a 3L that is an exact match for a company with those initials, yes you might have a decent end-user sale. The challenge is finding matches if you want to do outbound, or sitting and waiting for inbound offers. Looking for acronyms before purchase is probably the safest way, with multiple end users.

There are still over 4,000 3L out of a possible 17,576 and a few to several drop daily

That being said, I kept a few 3L that were pronounceable yet had no actual meaning - my IO are at myio.io : wink :
