dnkitchen has a good interview on Elliot

Hi

I enjoy reading elliotsblog very much and learned a lot the past few months. Admire him in how he is developing things, got into the domain pretty late in the game.

Can't wait see what Elliot does in 09 for his geo names and continue buildout on mini sites!

Congrats Elliot in doing a great job and giving your readers helpful tips.

Dnkitchen did a great job as well and thanks in doing interview.

I really don't know how the Chef does it but he really has a magic touch when it comes to getting people to agree to interviews and this was a great one, like all of them Patrick's done so far.

I can't wait to see his interview with Bob Parsons :hearts:

ElliotsBlog.com is one of my favorite domain news blog, right after my own of course. Elliot Silver has been blogging since June 2007 and has not stopped since. I really applaud him for this, it is extremely difficult to take a blog and continue writing month after month supplying new information. I am not the only one to notice, he has been awarded blog of the year 2008 by DomainTools.com, DomainerChoiceAwards.com and if memory serves me correct he won something at TRAFFIC.

Beyond his blogging Elliot is becoming a big player in the Geo domain name scene. He owns domains like Lowell.com and Burbank.com which are 2 of the top 250 populated US cities. I know what Elliot paid for Lowell.com, it was no joke. Elliot is a serious full time domainer, making waves and here to stay.

Q. I read the bio on your blogs, says you are a graduate of NYU, do you think your education has helped in anyway with your domaining business?

Interview to long to post everything so please use the link above to read.

Who is your idea of a big domainer? I have already done Rick Latona and Rick Schwartz, those are pretty big players. I'm up for ideas, I will get whoever you want.

As Reece pointed out, I have one coming up with Bob Parsons very soon.

Thank you jeffoverman for creating this thread and everyone else, glad you guys enjoyed the interview.

Thank you.

Sahar is pretty hard to get, I tried a few months ago. I think I can make it happen, I know someone that works pretty close with him. I'll email him right now.

Frank Schilling, really don't know much about him. I will have to read up a little more. Last I seen he stopped posting to his own blog.

was wondering where the thread went....lol...was in general discussion, guess moderator didnt like it in there and got moved...

you did a great job on interview, i always reading about elliot...

i dont know how he operates but the things i have read on him he isnt like a few of the top domainers, i drive this car that car...he is more humble unless he acts differently around his close contacts.... like how he didnt comment exactly how much money he made, others would jump in and boost there ego in how much they make..

great job...one person that we dont mention about is scott day that often, he owns some prime names... thanksgiving.com, joke.com, receipes.com and many others...developing things and there sites are top notch...i dont know much about him but that would be a good one possible??? here is the company and be a good read...

sahar would be huge plus, with that interview i would go after theme of risks, how he came over here with nothing and look at where he is now...he is humble on his blog as well....

bob parsons would be huge.... i dont know if you like .tv patrick but there is some chatter going on about them handing the .tv extension, that could be one tough question to ask... tell him the .tv fans love how they are promoting .tv and he has my vote in handling .tv

great job!

Thanks, so far this is what I have back from both Sahar himself and his staff, "Not doing interviews right now however, you may want to ask Darren Cleveland if he is interested. Darren is RMG CEO (our company)". I responded and will keep pushing, very politely of course. In the mean time would you guys be interested in Darren?

i sent my final draft of questions to bob last night, i included your question about .tv, can't wait to see what he says. thanks for the idea.

scott day, with names like that certainly looks like a good prospect. i will contact him shortly.

Thank you for the compliments and thank you to Chef Patrick for the interview :) I pretty much operate in person the way I operate on my blog. I love what I do, I make a decent living, I have a supportive wife, close family, and good friends, so I am pretty happy go lucky about things. The advantage of a blog is that when I am frustrated or upset about something, I can wait until it passes before posting. There's too much bad stuff going on in the world to be bothered by trivial things, so why waste the energy? Usually my frustration stems from watching my puppy (1 year old Puggle) all day at home... but that's another story.

I also love what I can do because I make my own hours and work when I can. At the moment, I am writing from my father's retail store. I took the day off and came up here to spend the day with him. More chatting than working, but what do you expect... lol

I think Scott would make a great interview (I interviewed Sahar a while ago, so I know he has some good things going on), but I didn't get a chance to interview Scott. I think he has one of the best generic portfolios out there and it's neat to hear about how he learned about domains and became an active domain investor.

Thanks again :)

2009 is going to be an interesting year. Typically I make the bulk of my revenue from domain sales, but I think that has slowed. It's getting riskier to buy a $10k name with the hopes of selling for $15k. It's smart to be liquid (IMO) but it's tough to be liquid if you are buying expensive domain names!

I think this year is going to pose the greatest challenge for me because I am going to have to convince advertisers to spend money on my sites when they, too are being conservative with their expenditures.

My geodomains are making some money with hotel and attraction commission revenues, but it's not enough to pay all the bills. I think there are plenty of ways to monetize my geodomains (Yellow Pages for example), but I am going to have to start soliciting advertising dollars from local businesses, which I haven't done... yet. This will start very soon, and I will be happy to provide an update - good or bad.

I'd be interested, is he also a domainer ?

How about interviewing NP'ers Giode or Federer ??

They both seem to be having fantastic success and it would be nice to hear their story...after all its a helluva lot harder getting quality domains now than it was 1995 to 2000 ish ...unless you have alot of money to start off with.

Thanks :tu:
