Wow, it's awful! It seriously looks like they thought "Oh FF looks good, let's copy it!", and then they made a half-assed version.

What's happened to the page text? The tab title looks normal, the text on the page looks like it's got that cleartype edge smoothing on it. It sucks.

Why would they put the back/forward buttons and the stop/reload buttons on two totally different sides of the screen? Can you even move them? When you enable the menu bar, it's BELOW the address bar! What's up with that? How can that possibly be usable?

So you have to move the mouse over the entire area of the screen just to perform the very basic functions? It's seriously like "take the best parts of firefox, add in the worst parts of IE6, mess it up completely, and release it as IE7".

It's totally unusable! It's worse than IE6! The small amount of time gained by loading the pages quicker is lost by the amount of extra time you have to spend just navigating the extra distance between menus and buttons.

Is it still totally tied into the computer, rather than being a standalone program? Does it still use those crappy index.dat files?

This is seriously much worse than when I used to run FF 1.0X on Windows 98! Thank God there's more than one internet browser!

BIG thumbs down! :td:

It crashes on me on an EVERYDAY basis -- literally. It's slow and it looks like a cheap FF rip-off. Bill Gates, you greedy bastard -- stop making IE browsers. They're as good as trash.

I'm sorry but both IE and FF crash on me...for those who claim FF is perfect they are only MS haters...I have cursed out both browsers equally.

I don't think FF is perfect -- at times, it doesn't seem to wanna load my webpages. But FF has never crashed on me... I use FF more, personally.

It looks more like a rip of Opera than FF.. I won't be installing it for a while.

I wonder if they purposely rushed it out so they could beat Firefox's release! Ha ha, stupid MS.

BTW, No one here is claiming FF is "perfect", just that it's a LOT more user-friendly than this junk offering. Firefox, Opera, IE, some other browser. Who cares, so long as it's functional, usable and has the right features?

Right now for me, FF is the best browser. I could never get used to Opera and this latest offering from MS puts it firmly at the back of the bunch.

Try Firefox 2.0 anyway, it's much faster than before, less buggier and less memory intensive too. I've been using it since rc1 for 168 hours with no crashes. Memory usually ~70k after hours surfing. Far better than IE7.

Thanks for the info. I will now update from Candidate 1.

This is definitely to beat Firefox 2.0, which I totally agree is probably the single greatest browser ever made.

Internet Explorer 7 blows, and now we have to start coding for it, yuck!

EDIT had to add
HTML:
CSS file:
h1 { margin-top:10px; }
to h1 tags in my blog at apexad.net to fix it in IE 7. It starts!

Also, acid 2 looks much better then IE6, but still totllally horrible compared to firefox, opera, and safari.

I agree with all of you 100%, Firefox or Mozilla is the way to go. However, this new Microsoft product will be on most computers, and that means coders have to make sure their stuff works right in it. If I could, I would never boot it up.

(In fact, it's off my desktop, I have to do Start | Run | iexplore)

It was bad enough when IE6 broke stuff that looked fine in Firefox and Safari, but now it seems stuff that worked fine in Firefox, Safari and IE6 breaks in IE7.

IE on Vista works great and so does FF, I use them both although 80% of the time I use FF. For those who say IE is copying FF...I guess that means FF has been copying IE since it was around before FF was even thought of. IE is more strict with standards than FF so it seems at times FF gears towards sloppy web coding when IE expects things to be done right...go figure. I like them both equally.

Those that don't like the annoying blurry text, do this...

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - (Untick Always use Clear Type for HTML)

Save, and restart IE. :)

I still use FireFox as my main broswer though. :hehe:
