Dear Sir/Madam,

While searching for a domain, I noticed -------.com. I am interested in purchasing the name and would like to know if it's for sale.

If so, can you please let me know along with an asking price.

Regards,
there first name
(using gmail account so I can't find out who they are etc)

I have been searching through old threads as I have seen this discussed here... what is the best way to respond?

The domain is a one word dictionary .com but not a very common word, developed and about 8 years old.

I don't plan to sell it but if they offer the right price I certainly would and I'd rather they give a price they have in mind instead of me giving one.

How would experienced members recommend I proceed?

respond as you want to reply with the price you have in mind for the domain if the interested party says something along the lines
good price, then directs you to get an appraisal for it, then it's the so-called appraisal scam email.

Tell them what you've told us, it's not for sale but the right price may persuade you.

Ask them to name a price and if they press you to name the amount it's probably the appraisal scam, although I haven't heard of them using gmail accounts before.

I don't think that many users here can read Chinese. Care to translate it to English instead?

Wonder if it's the same in China, they don't read english very well, hey that would open the door for domains in native language characters- wonder what we could call them.

Caveat: Be friendly, honest, and truthful ... and customize above accordingly! :talk:
Caveat2: It may very well be a - sadly - common appraisal scam, so also keep an even perspective if you don't hear back to your above, professional reply.
