Hi Friends,

I got a inquiry from EPIK on a domain name that I own. I was thinking if this could be a genuine inquiry from someone interested or could it be just because the email came on the same day my domain expired at GoDaddy.

Hello,

I am contacting you about your domain name [DN HERE] which is scheduled to expire on September 22, 2016. You are listed as the registrant.

Assuming this domain is not being renewed, I am wondering if there is a price at which you would be willing to sell this expiring domain today.

Sincerely,

There is a previous NP thread that discusses this, but came to no real conclusion.

There is also a Chinese dn investor thread on the same thing. Can't understand it though b/c the translations come out to: "Mass interference in the bombing every day, affecting the good life." O_o

What is the 2016 consensus of this?
Do these inquiries convert to notable sales?
Is this just spam?

Thanks pros!

So annoying get these all the time. They are just lowball offers. They go thru the lists, and only go after quality names. This is not what whois was designed for. It will not result in a sale, unless you want to firesale your name

so does it come fromn @Epik.com email address at least?
that's always a decent place to start checking when in doubt..

otherwise you just run into problems if you get an email that says for instnce to verify your godady domains.. but when u check email address sent from it's anything but @godaddy.com

Yes, it is Epik, I have over 100 in my junk box. They are selectively going over the drops, and choosing only the good names. They are in the mindset if you delete it we will give you $100, and call it a day.

Thank you @wwwweb I think that resolves my question.

I was hoping that there was an actual end user at the end of the inquiry, as I have received inquiries before, but I assumed that this was just the typical lowball fodder.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Yes, trash them all, I have asked them to stop, but they never do.

time to add filter #43434 to gmail:

delete all emails that contain word "epik.com"

Can't you use them as kind reminder of your domain expirations? :-D

Indeed, blacklisting epik dot com in a spam filter is a must. The problem is that this registrar also does dropcatching for snapnames, so one needs to be careful - if an unfortunate occurance of "landing" snapnames order with epik happens, blacklisting of their domain will cause issues with icann confirmation, password retreival etc.
