Hello Community,

Just wondered if you have had any experience with the following:

End user came in with the inquiry for one of my .com. He said he bought the domain through Microsoft for his Outlook. And we have crossed path here. He wants to develop a website on it. I answered it is quite strange Microsoft did not ask for owner verification? Or maybe it is just a story. Of course he is a college student with extremely tight budget he is started asking about if trademarks for the name, and he think I own the domain now for him :)

I did not even quote the price man...also was being questioned the intent of buying of this name and the date of purchase? UDRP language? The current status is no trademarks in any country... Don't know what to do with this, any advice?

Thanks

And Happy New Year to Everyone

Easy...

The only question that matters is how much.
Politely tell him he has zero claim to it. Tell him it is a domain on your list of domains to develop but you are working on some others first so you would not be totally against selling it for the right offer.

The less you say the better off you are.

There seem to be quite a few scams going on at the moment. I've just had a text saying that slightly more than 1 Bitcoin is waiting for me at one of the on-line wallets. Well the only wallets I have are on full Bitcoin nodes. He also stated that it was worth over $100,000 - which may be a slightly ambitious price.

It sounds as if the guy has been scammed by one of those alleged Microsoft employess that will "fix" your copy of Windows for you, even if you run Linux.

Thanks guys for the answers.

I would add that I checked the guy's background a bit and he is a marketing specialist.

So either plays a role of "stupid" person or he has been scammed....

Send the price and wait. Afterall, it's YOU who owns the name!

Sounds crazy.

I wouldn't even reply.

Hello freety85,

You need to be very careful with this type of inquiry, you may well be right about the udrp language.
This happens more that we think.
Sometimes, with wording such as you posted it is a "marketing specialist" who may be fronting for a company they represent looking to trap you into saying something that could lead to a reverse hijack attempt.

I'm not saying that is what this is, and IANAL, but be careful what you share if there are further conversations.

Like MapleDots already mentioned, the less said the better.

Peace,
Kenny

Maybe he has just registered an email address @outlook.com. Nothing stopping him if it's not already on their database. Many well educated people surprise me with their lack of understanding of everything domain names
