I'm sorry but I do not agree.
I do think that a .info may not do quite as well as a .com if everything else is equal, but a .info certainly CAN rank well against other domains.
The thing that will make the difference is how the site is constructed, how much and what quality is the content, how many links point to the site, and if the site has been optimized for search engines (SEO) or not.
But the other argument against a .info can also be that even if your site is better than the .com, .net, etc. domains; people may not realize your site is a .info and type in the other domains instead, so you will lose traffic to them. And for a community site, I think a .org is the best choice in most cases, but it is good to get the .com also so you don't lose the traffic that goes to the .com.
