Increasing PageRank of Domain?

Hi everyone,

Please excuse me if im after posting this in the wrong section or if this has already been asked. I tried using the forums search tool but i didn't get any relevant results so im posting this here. Im a NamePros n00b

Anyway, im wondering how would i go about increasing the PageRank of a domain name to increase its value (i think thats how it works)

Obviously if i go and park a domain on example Sedo im going to end up not being able to edit the pages code because its just going to be full of Sedo Adverts etc which would only bring me in profit from PPV or PPC etc

So would i have to build a website and park the domain to that site?

And the website would contain good meta tags etc?

And i would have to get other websites to have a link to my domain name?

Is that how it works? Or am i in completely the wrong direction

Google Pagerank is basically based on the popularity of your site. If it's really great and you have CNN and CNET linking to it, and you don't attempt to screw your way around into getting better Pagerank, it will naturally come to you.

Relevant backlinks, high PR backlinks, the more the merrier backlinks (LOL), age of site...

Site popularity = site page rank = backlinks from good sites

The best & natural way of getting your site popular is to make it attractive and add unique, relevant and useful content. Let other people know about your site (marketing) using social web sites and forums. Keep updating your site whenever appropriate so that your content is not stale in the eyes of search engines. Do this and page rank will follow.

All the things that give a site PageRank can work on a parked domain, if you can do the same things to it. If the only thing you can do is get links to the domain, then it may work to increase the PR, but you may have several things that work against you. If Google knows it's a parked domain, they may not allow much or any PR because of the limited value of the domain. And if your parking provider finds out you are getting links and doing that is against their rules, you may find your account closed.

So try to host the domain or park it someplace that will let you optimize it and get links to it and after some time you should some PR.

I see that sites with good pr will have good backlinks. Relevant backlinks with high page rank from others sites. But at the present, PR is not important when your site has little traffic even your site has high pr.

You can't...

... because PAGE rank applies to PAGES, not DOMAINS.

If you don't understand that, you're going to make a lot of assumptions that aren't true.

Let's say you have a web site and you write a killer article. Some page on a very popular site (let's say a page showing PR6) links to your article. The page with YOUR article could now show a TBPR of 5. Meanwhile, your home page could still be displaying PR0.

So what's the PR of THAT domain? 5? 0? Something else?

Answer: None of the above - Domains don't have pagerank. Pages have PageRank.

Getting good backlinks to a PAGE will increase the PageRank of that page. (Good backlinks does not mean spammy links or paid links.)

Pagerank nowadays is calculated based on many factors. To get a good pagerank you need: quality backlinks to your site, good content, updates on a regular basis.

I remember Google webmaster tool used to provide this option. But now they have removed it... hope someone can share =)

Yes, i remember that, but i even remember it didn't say you the PAGERANK, it just used to say if the page rank was nothing, low, medium or high.

Google toolbar.

But don't take what you see as set-in-stone and don't place too much importance in it. Toolbar page rank is neither precise nor accurate. In some cases, it's intentionally INaccurate.

PR is good if you are selling a website or selling links (not recommended.)It is also useful when building links. But for many Page Rank is more about ego than anything else.

Search engines like Google treat these as links to different pages. The real hazard is that you are likely to end up with both versions of the same site spidered, which will create duplicate content conflicts.

Try checking PageRank of your site with and without www. Most probably you'll get different values. Site could have better page rank if inbound links were not spread between www.domain.com and just domain.com.

Pagerank is really over rated in my opinion. The less talked about and known google "Trustrank" is where it is at when it comes to climbing the Serps.

They did it to discourage the so-called "SEO's" who think it's all about toolbar page rank. That's also why they started to penalize buying/selling links and started displaying a graybar on most directory subpages.

There are 3rd party metrics out there which are much more meaningful.
