Hi all - as a relative newbie I'm wondering what people feel about .in names. There are a couple of LLL.IN domains available and I'm considering registering them. How do people see the future?

I've picked up a few LLL.in names. India is a huge market with a huge population. If you register LLL.in names, be prepared to hold onto them for a good couple of years though

Thanks mate. Well I was browsing this morning and picked up:
ikc.in
swop.in
sauce.in
vik.in
bait.in

I particularly like sauce.in - with a bit of luck a big curry label or something may want it in future. Fingers crossed!

Quite correct. Their economy is booming, and their tech sector is booming even more. .IN is bound to get serious soon. Also, the saturation of .com market will spur its development too. Short domain names in most extensions are good bets too, so i think you 're on track.

I stuck sauce.in into premium domains and it got 'certified'. Do people here have respect for the PD appraisal or is it not really highly thought of?

I have invested in a few lll.ins with the view to hold for a few years (unless a fab offer arises) :hehe:

Good luck with your names

I also invested in some lll.in 's and I will hold on them. They are a good emerging market.
As regards PremiumDomains, don't rely on them, they tend to overevaluate good keywords and undervalue the cctld.

But sauce.in is a good one.

.in's a cool extension, and IMO one that's definitely looking ahead to better days with India's economy booming. Internet hasn't quite boomed over there like in China, and when it does, watch out! There are more English speakers in India than anywhere in the world. I do think that ccTLDs can really see the light of day with the oversaturation in the other extensions, but it won't be ALL ccTLDs, just a select few, and .in is IMO one of those. Look at how .us has progressed...I think it's only a matter of time before .in progresses the same way. Probably the only thing that's held it back besides the lower internet usage there compared to other countries is that .co.in is the more established extension in India. Still, I think they'll realize that .in is more internationally friendly and simply looks a lot better than .co.in.

Internet usage is very low in India , so it will be some time before .in is in demand.

Once it crosses 30% usage, it will be more than all of the USA population. :)

30% > USA? Seriously? :o

1 Billion People in India, 300 million in USA. Simple Maths ;)

What is the uptake currently in both countries?

Now many major companies here in india are using .in/co.in extensions. Many software park's are in the making, So it will be worth the investment if u r willing to hold on for a couple of years atleast.

What are your guys input on the other xxx.in tlds (ind.in / gen.in / firm.in / org.in etc) any value? I have noticed alot of great keywords available and they are much cheaper than the .co.in/.in

Just added microchips.in. One day......here's hoping!

The 3rd level .ins are mostly taken for the super generic keywords, for instance, I own Lawyer.net.in . If you can find them, I would take any that are .net.in or .org.in .

For the most part, you'll want to stick to .co.in and .in but there are some keyword .org/.nets still avail.
