One thing I hear a lot from domain-related e-books, etc., is that it's important to buy and sell domains in a niche in which you have some expertise. Do you actually agree with this -- do you, in fact, just keep on going with the same niche? If so, don't you kind of exhaust your options after a while with this strategy? Or, do you not really focus so much on sticking to a niche and instead just look for promising names regardless of subject matter (using metrics such as PageRank, etc.). Thanks.

I buy all kinds of names that are full of potential.
But, I don't usually get names I know nothing about.
It helps to have a lot of interests.
IF I get one where I have no knowledge (eg: AtlantaFlorist.com) I feel confident that I could sell it w/o any expertise.

Benefit of knowing the niche would be development would be easier for ya if you chose that path down the line.
Another advantage of knowing the niche is then you probably already have existing contacts you could possibly sell the domain to.

Personally I have a handful of domains in tons of categories as I like to be diversified across the board, wouldn't want all my eggs in one basket in case that niche grows cold for a bit.
Little research on a niche you don't have mastered will show ya if your domain is top tier or easily trumped with something better or many available alternatives along with average profit of a sale in that niche so not hard to formulate a ballpark price range even if you don't have vast experience.
