On Thurs. Aug. 28th I sold a name to a trusted NP member. On that day he emailed to say that he would be away for a day or two on vacation and once he returned he would pay. I could either push the name, or hold off until I received payment. Because he has an excellent trader rating full of "fast payment" type feed back I went ahead and pushed the name to him.

On Sept. 2nd (5 days later) I hadn't heard anything, so I emailed him asking about payment. He responded that same day saying he had to transfer the money from his bank account to paypal and it would take 3-5 days to clear. Although I was surprised to hear this (he never said anything about it before), I decided to wait. On Sept. 8 I received an email from him saying that there was a "glitch" and that he had to do the transfer over and funds should be clear by the 12th. I just sent another email because I haven't heard anything from him today yet.

Next sale...Fri. Aug. 29th I sold a 3 character .com on Sedo...despite an email earlier this week, and one this morning, I have yet to know whether this sale is on or a no go. I have heard nothing since the close of the sale. I have no idea if the buyer actually has paid, if he hasn't paid, or what is going on. I'm sitting here listening to the crickets chirp.

We're not talking $20-$50 here. These two sales total $1230 and that is $1230 I could really use right now. How much longer should I be expected to hold out?? I want to be both a good buyer and good seller to deal with, and I understand that things happen, but this is really starting to get me down now.

This sounds to me like (domain) business as usual. Sedo lets in all kinds of "buyers" who disappear when it's time to pay.

In case 1) I'd just wait until he pays. Since he has a good NP track record. It's surely a glitch. In case 2) Welcome to Sedo.

Why did you push it in the first place? I would think that you would receive the money before sending the domain over, hm?

All the best to you!

Stubs advice is good, but at the same time if you are really in need of cash... make sure you keep the pressure on without being a total jerk (kinda' a fine line), b/c each moment lost is an extra moment that the funds will come in later.

These days I shut people/companies down fast if things don't go right.... just b/c I am in a position to where I can do that now. That hopefully teaches some of them to act straight with the next person. This guy, however is probably shooting you straight. It's amazing how most bank tellers can't do a simple bank wire..... I literally tell most of them how to do it and what needs to be written on the form since I do it more than any single one of them.

Boy I sure remember 'dem days when I was still winging it on the Net, it can be hard waiting, total suffering really, depending on the situation.......

Who is the NamePros member, LOL...nah don't say.

If he has a good rating, been here a while and a bunch of posts I would just wait a little longer. Who knows what could have happened while he was on vacation.

on sedo i waited 2 to 3 weeks to receive my U.S.$270 (net) payment from domains, just do the math, sedo is known to do business slowly but surely.

tip: stay in contact with your sedo assigned rep to know the status.

Sedo has worked very fast for me, but they sometimes mess up.
The other day, I received the email saying I was able to push my name to them, since they received the payment. So I did it the same day. Then 3 days later I received a reminder about pushing my domain to them. I responded I already did it. After 3 hours, I received the confirmation and my payment was in progress.

Regarding Problem 1)-Some Times PayPal puts sending limits on your credit card in good standing.Has happened to me once. This is what PayPal replied.

"To provide one of the safest online payment services, PayPal reviews every transaction before it is approved, and occasionally, we must limit funding options or decline a payment. These decisions consider every aspect of the transaction, including the merchant's settings and PayPal's statistical models. From time to time, these complex security measures may affect some accounts in good standing. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused you. Note: If your transaction has been denied, you may be able to complete the transaction using another funding source."

So i would suggest wait a few more days as i able to send payments again in a few days.

Could be that he is already re-selling the domain to someone else and is awaiting payment.....

Normally I try to get whatever they can give me now as a down payment. Tell him you will accept a deposit now..something like $100-$300 to show you some good-faith.

Because he has an excellent trader rating full of "fast payment" type feed back I went ahead and pushed the name to him.

Mistake #1. Even if someone had 1000 trader rating I am not going to push first. That's just sound business advice. To push without any payment is unusual. If he wanted domain control you could have changed DNS for him and told him a deposit was needed to keep the sale good.

You can't risk domains simply because you have a nice sale. Protecting the domain should be priority #1. I would rather lose the sale.

I think there are two issues here, one is sort of courtesy and simplicity - he should have paid you earlier.

The more important one is that, on this forum at least, you specifically say that you could really use that money right now. To him, it is just another thing to pay for, and the money part is not inconvienenced, I think he knows he's going to pay it.

What am I trying to say here? You might want to let him know that it is rather urgent and you need the money as soon as possible so he will take the hour or whatever to get the things fixed and sent to you more quickly. It is great fun to get $1000 and no fun to pay $1000, especially if you already have the product, so I think he is part stalling and part having actual glitches. People wait until the last minute to say, pay a bill, even though it is inevitable that they will lose that money and waiting does not help. But I think he will pay eventually. Best of luck!

Make it a rule to receive the payment first.
Theres nothing to feel bad about by anyone with that. That show it works. You should of politely asked him for confirmation that he would by the domain when he returned and leave it at that. Why push the domain unless you have the payment? This is a business, and procedures should be complied to.

As far as SEDO is concerned I have had that happen to me many a times now. Final bidder never turns up with the payment and I'm sent a contact which is more times that less phony. I've also had my auction stopped after 3 days explaining that it was started by mistake and was meant for later. But all this is a part of the business. They are better in most parts and one has to ignore occasional mishaps.
