If you made it to $1,000,000 eventually, and you had to spend the lot on a single domain then which would it be, remembering that you cannot acquire a domain that is currently valued over and above that amount?

(Not sure if this is the right section for this question)

Hard question, you'd have to go in for a high type in domain. Weather.com ?

Not sure about Weather.com for $1mil. I would guess that it would sell for higher than 1 million.

As far as which domain name I would personally give $1,000,000 for... well, if I told you, then I wouldn't be able to get it at $10,000! lol

Tough question. I hope to someday be in the dilemma stated by the OP.

I would invest in cheaper domain names. I suppose that would be better then investing in one domain name only.

Ive always wanted metal.com so idd probably go for that, but it wouldn't be an investment it would be one massive project ;)

If I had that kind of money though I wouldn't invest in domains idd go for my own collection of houses since there cheap now.

Bonus.com

I think it's a fun domain that's wasted on the current website.

It depends the purpose. If it is for investment, then any single word under valued domain will do.

Yeah Frank,

That's just crazy,

If you had a million dollars I am sure you would probably buy
ANiceReliantAutomobile.com (and monetize it with cardealerships and Auto insurance affiliates, of course:p)

In all seriousness, I would probably buy Baby.com (if it could be bought for that). People are always having babies. They grow out of toys, clothes, furniture(beds) etc, faster than any other demographic. I am sure a well developed and marketed site could finance my modest lifestyle.

@snoop: it's a line from a song, "If I had a million dollars, I'd buy your love." Just being silly.

@J73: Crazy enough, that song had just run through my iPod rotation when I saw this thread. Was all I could not do to not post TreeFort.com, TinyFridge.com, GreenDress.com, Monkey.com etc. etc. etc. Wouldn't be a bad portfolio actually :)

I would like hotproperty dot com to match those in my sigs - lol. In all seriousness, I'd like to really get stuck into developing a property buying/selling site, so a name like this would be ideal for me. I guess it's worth a fair bit less than $1M though.

$1 mil is actually a really crappy price range. There's not a lot of good stuff in that range these days. Anything really great, like weather.com, is worth at least $20 mil. In fact, I'd offer that weather.com may be the first domain that is priceless, simply because how do you value a brand tied that clear to one domain?

Anything less than $10 mil, for me anyhow, is in the really crap range. That's where you see the real nasty failures, like sex.com.

This is not about buying the best domain John, but buying the best you can with the resources you have available, and what you would actually invest in :)

I could've made a thread about what you would buy if you had 300 billion trillion, but then everyone would go for the obvious ones.

Hmmm,

not my usual buying range :p...

Let's assume this domain would have not been developed and being a flourishing business and let's assume it is currently being held by a domainer only parked...

I'd buy

Inter.net :)

My answer is I would not buy a single domain in that price range. It's a price range that seems to bring out the sub-optimal choices.

Some times the best way to treat your resources is to spread them out. I see a lot of domains in the $30,000 range that have upside. A few in the $100,000-500,000 range.

Once you progress past that point, you really should be the end user and not a domainer if you're going to push that amount of chips forward.

One thing I've learned in the last year as I've tried to get a handle on domaining is that the bigger profit margins are to be had at the bottom of the market. Paying big cash in the hope of getting big scores is a bad plan.

?? There has never been a reported domain sale of $20million or more. You are confusing developed sites with domains.
