Well after all the hype and hoopla and support ive had over the years trying to support other tlds its now time to admit, IF YOU DONT OWN THE DOT COM YOU DONT HAVE MUCH!

Dot com dot com dot com

No other will do, no other will take its place, no other has its value, no other has a chance against it!!!

I don't care if its now or 20 years from now if you don't own the dot com you are setting yourself up for a loss period end of story!

So to all you newbies, save your $$$$ now and buy or hand reg ONLY dot coms cause if you don't you will find you messed up bigtime!

im blown away really how words and ext can create such a furor .

I know super crazy eh? Especially when you open a new thread with a closed-ended title blanketed in ALL CAPS, emoting no furor whatsoever.

2 years are already elapsed for nTLDs... no any significant changes for enduser-aftermarket...
Their share is 2% max.

Please predict the 5 most popular among endusers...

You should open this up in a new thread, might make for a more sensible discussion.

I bet on traditional gTLDs and major ccTLDs.
Regarding nTLDs - taking them just for assorti... without fanatism.

You dont know this and not even Frank Schilling knows this...
Schilling already received 3 failed nTLDs which are under his management: .link/.click/.sexy
To be continued...

NotCom is the trend and .com is a burden, has lost its meaning, as every other domain is commercial you do not need to stress anymore. let us wake up to the reality. As far as SEO many switched over seamlessly, without losing any page rank..none will lose to .com.

Not to offened any one here. in advance, iam not inviting any back lash here, be polite in expressing.

Even dinosaurs extincted when they could not adopt, thus extincted..earlier better, let us welcome the new era domains and grow with them. Time to see the things as they are, than dreaming them to be as we wish them to be.

uh..and now ready to get bombarded by many many .com lovers...but i do not care in expressing myself.

Having a dot com plays to the strengths of the subconscious part of the mind.

Why is branding so important?
Why is a brand name so important?

The same reasons as having the ideal tld is important. Without writing a book it is hard to explain, but it is the perception built in your mind, with parts of the subconscious that play in making the decision as to whether this business is good, or great.

Language is powerful. As .com is the pinnacle of what is possible on a global level, it makes sense to have the .com of your business name.

As mentioned earlier, .org is perfect for organizations and non-profits, because it communicates that distinct message in our minds.

Think of it like this:

Loans.com
Loanz.com

If I am getting a loan, I want to approach a respectable, trustworthy company. Well, loanz to me does NOT speak those messages to me, all that just from a name.

So again, consider these:

loans.com
loans.loans
loans.store

In the subconscious the .com wins in every aspect of the messages that matter. The perception of the brand, the business is that it is authentic, and they care about their image.

The others are just missing something. They lack the depth of a serious business, of that personal brand experience. Loans.store is better than loans.loans. Think your business looks clever by repeating the word twice? No, it makes you look like an amateur that ran out of good ideas. It almost creates a spammy feel, like the old days of warez sites.

Don't dog my loans.loans domain, not cool. :-P

Sorry you can't find a repeating nGTLD, oh I can't now either in 2016 due to rarity and value!

BTW, to keep the thread on track, here's a sale that would never happen in .com IMO!

boutique.boutique 7,000 USD 2016-01-05 Sedo

There are more than thousand new TLDs available now and who ever thinks that .com will stay on #1 forever is living in 'agony' ;)

.top flys / is flying
.com dies / is dying

My prediction
In the next 2/3 years these will be the 5 most popular domains [with chinese help]
COM, NET, XYZ ,TOP ,GDN [ XYZ and TOP could be battling for 3rd place
Isnt' it what some domainers predicted 2/3 years ago ? They say wait, give it some more time, in 5 years new extensions will be mainstream etc. 3 years later how does that prediction sound now ? .com is still outgrowing all new extensions combined.

For pure play domaining purposes I will stick to .com, popular ccTLDs, you know the 'legacy' stuff that is dying (except in the reported sales).

.depends on how you define "popular". If popular is having the most registrations maybe. End-user usage? Not really. .TK is one of the most popular extensions according to these metrics

The number of developed .xyz sites is still rather small according to the Alex top 1 million. .org has still tons of websites that won't go away anytime soon.

top isn't neutral which limits it's usage and prevents mass adaption. Not everyone wants to be "top".

It looks silly and unprofessional in many cases when you call yourself top. If you have a brand you either need a neutral extension or the extension needs to fit your brand. .

.gdn doesn't have any real meaning for most or possible uses beside some niches.(Maybe geographic like GuangDong?)

Who wants to torture their customers with a .gdn domain? Find us under drw.gdn Don't remember? Why not? We upgraded from our 6L drwgdn.com to a short 3L

Actually when I jumped back in it was 2014 with xyz and I think it's still 2016 so that's still two years Kate. Even if three who cares. Do you even own or sell domains? I only read and see comments promoting .com, nothing else but bashing nGTLDs?

I like .com, why would I not but anyone thinking that all new gTLDs suck, has nothing better to do but put nGTLDs down in this early stage just isn't a game player IMO. It will take time, might fly, maybe not but I'm thinking fly!

I support all my fellow domainers, time will answer everything and not a person.

I agree .GDN totally generic, like .XYZ, watch it grow... ;)

.GDN, FYI = Global Domain Name

I know but who knows this? It's a made up combination of words that no one has used before.

You would need to explain consumers what the URL means and frankly BRAND GLOBAL DOMAIN NAME(your consumers will remember it that way) is far from short.

If you need to explain it is a fail.

If you have a two word brand it is even worse. Our name is: COOL ADS.GDN, GDN means GLOBAL DOMAIN NAME. Remember COOL ADS GLOBAL DOMAIN NAME

Good luck advertising this one the radio or on TV.

In reality your consumers would remember COOLADSGLOBALDOMAINNAME.com about as well as the former version.

If you tried to advertise the .com version on TV you would probably be considered insane.

While a single word .gdn takes no more time to type than a single word .com it is has hard to remember as any random WORDLLL.com which is not really premium in most cases.

For example domainrdd.com, domainrte.com domainkfg.com(All available) are not very premium not even on the Chinese market. Most would consider this to be pigeon sh*t. Domain, that's a strong keyword, how will weak keywords do?

Barnrdd.com, Barnrte.com, Barnkfg.com?
