What value does a domain have, based only by it's traffic and making no money on ppc? I know this does not apply to every domain, but in general.

Let's say the domain News360.net get's 1,000 uniques per month, but makes No Money or up to $1.00 per month. Is it's value $12.00 ? $1.00 x's 12 months rev? Or is it worth $200, $300 $400 etc just because it get's 1,000 uniques per month?

I guess my big question is. What kind of price do you put on "traffic", no matter if it's making money or not? You can take the Rev x's x amount of monthly earnings, but does this price include the "traffic" as well?

as a buyer i generally put a price of $10 per 100 visitors if the domain is easily recognisble what its for such as a typo or generic term but I generally stay away from traffic names with no apparent source for the traffic so I couldnt really help you with that.

Thank you, that does help.

So if I heard you correctly, if the domain has Links in place and maybe some PR or is a nice typo of a term, you would pay $10 per 100 uniques. Sounds fair, 10 cents a hit.

Just because a domain is not making any money, does not mean it is not worth a decent price.
If it has a good number of search queries.
Is memorable, and has good key words.
Is marketable, and on, and on.

It is only going to be as successful as the owner. Just because the domain is good does not mean the webmaster is.
90% of the posts I see are people looking for something where the work has been done already, but the price they are looking to buy at, does not equal the value of the time to get it that way.
Also, just because a domain is making $500 a month from me, does not mean it will for you. It should be viewed like every other business. Value is value.

A store on a busy corner is worth more than one in the middle of the block, no matter who runs it.
A bad webmaster wont fully realize the potential of DEBTBAILOUT.COM, and in the same sentence an inexperienced webmaster would want to pay $45 for that same domain.

An experienced webmaster will buy based on what it is, and what he can do with it, not what the last "joker" did with it.

That being said, I do not see a lot of experience on most of the forums. Not many people fully understand the value of a good .com domain. Most people are looking for a "gem" for little money, and there are enough "newbies" that will sell it to them, but they are running out fast, and most "newbies" don't have anything over 2 years old anyway.

Every other post is "need cheap". In other words "need crap", or "someone stupid".
There is no other possible outcome. Either you get a crap domain with no potential, or some needs to pay the light bill, and will give it to you for a song. Absolutely no consideration for the fact that supply is limited, and 95% is in private portfolios. And 100% of any good viable .com's are in private portfolio's or in use. ALL of them! (yes they do get dropped from time to time, but isn't that the equivalent of a "waiting list"?)
The supply is so limited...that people are waiting for previously registered ones to drop!
A good .com domain is a rare resource, that will never be duplicated. EVER! I don't see the point of selling a good keyword for $45.

I have never sold one domain to a poster on this board, but I have sold over 20 domains on this board. How?

Because most "industry" people that understand the market, and understand the value of what certain domains mean to them, don't necessarily participate, but they watch, and they have contacted me, (as I am sure many others) outside of the forum and I have had many successful deals.

I don't have any $10, $20, even $100 domains...whats the point? THERE ARE NO MORE!
Do you think if there were no more "Big Wheels" you could get one for $45?

There are tons of items in the world that are never to be made again, and the supply that is available, is limited, and that have no marketing appeal, that you cannot touch for a reasonable price.

So it is all relative.
DEBTBAILOUT.COM is probably not worth anything to a 23 year old "dabbler" in the domain market looking for quick score a la 2001, but to a Mortgage, Refi, Debt Consolidation, Foreclosure, or Credit Counselor, or that industry as a whole ...it is worth tons.
Most people that call themselves "webmasters" or "domain investors" don't see the big picture, they only see the tools on their desktop.
They don't see Financial Forecasts, Industry Reports, Demographics of certain niche's, or study any kind of Economics.
Business is business whether it be electronic, or brick and mortar.

Yopu need to know about business as a whole, not just "Domains".

I don't think it's meaningful to put any figures on traffic without knowing the origin and quality of that traffic.
For example traffic from bots is worth nil in terms of monetization, so does traffic from spam backlinks. If you analyze traffic for your domain maybe you'll find the way to monetize.

That was quite the diatribe. I agree with you 100% though. But you also have to understand that Business requires money. Most of the "dabblers" you speak of don't have much money, including myself, so we scrape the bottom of the barrel looking for any profit we can make in order to build up a bank roll. This doesn't mean that we don't see the big picture, understand the markets, see opportunities in niches, etc... it just means whe don't have the pay to play on that level yet.
