They can't contain it now. They cat is out of the bag and it looks like certain developers are taking matters in their own hands. Although restricted to non-disclosure terms, apparently they were unphased. Take a look at IE7 disrobed!!!!

It looks as if a russian developer released these from the russian sites on the second series of screen shots, Although I can't say for sure.

i bet theres ie7 on linux now but i still know you won't use it, is there FF on linux as well?
It's literally impossible to run IE on Linux unless you emulate windows entirely, and yes Firefox is available for just about every type of operating system you can think of.

IE and FF neither one is anything special they both get the job done equally well IMO. I use them both as a web development tool, although I surf more with FF.

what's Lindows OS ? it claims Office and IE can run on it?
so a whole new world of browser hijacking, dns cache hijacking, spyware is on the loose?

Lindows is a newbie Linux distro aimed for Windows handicapped users that need their Start button, etc. The claims about running Windows applications relate to using a platform emulation software (emulator). Most likely it's Wine covered with some Lindows branding. Overall would never, ever touch Lindows. Just dig up some impartial reviews about it. You realise you're for instance it's using root without a password by default, unless you realise to do different.

Except they don't (equally as "IMO" as your comment), unless the webmaster goes into great lengths with making sure the design looks at least somewhat acceptable and functioning with MSIE, while still adhering to web standards.

Not meaning one has to be 100% compliant, but MSIE drops the ball even with some basic things like doing a rounded border with CSS. Also MSIE is the browser whichh causes we still have to use old fashioned table elements.

FYI, Rounded borders is a CSS3 feature, CSS3 has not been recommended yet and won't be for a while.

IE upgrades are generally boring affairs. The introduction of IDN functionality is a good move though. I have used both IE and FF at various stages. I *love* FF's tab feature - that sold it to me. I like both browsers.

Aside from that, FF, Opera etc will only compete with IE when they render web pages*exactly* like IE. Sure, the dev techies will say Mozilla adheres to more standards, but we're waaay too far in for that to matter - short term at least.

Most developers will also tell you what a pain in the arse it is having to test your sites in different browsers. And the casual "home" developer (ie most) won't waste their time coding for 3% of the users out there. So while IE exists, IMO it will always be the most popular browser, with the unopinionated web public at least ;)

My "Zapits" thing (see sig) is complex code - i started developing in FF and gave up - just didnt do what i needed :( I can live with it being IE only though - and that is a common developer feeling.

I expect we'll all those hundreds of old "Mozilla vs Microsoft" arguments spring up all around the web again in the wake of this release :)

Joy!

I use FF myself about 80% of the time now. I think many informed users as in this forum have switched to FF. However, in my highest trafficed website, IE is still about 85% of my users with FF being about 8%. This is an international site, and few users outside the US seem to be using FF, at least those that visit the international underwater photography contest site I manage. If on the development side of the business, you still have to cater to the masses.

I have IE7 and still do not like it. Glad to see they added the tabbed browsing but it is going to take a lot more then what they have done to make me switch back from FF and Opera.

As for my sites, I have about 40% other then IE traffic coming in. I test my sites in everything I can before releasing and am working on 2 school sites right now where I am having to write for both Mozilla and IE as the bulk of their traffic is IE but all school district related computers are running Mozilla. FUN! Not!

I'm not sure, but if you don't get a lot of hits, then those are probably correct numbers. One of my sites, that get's more than 1,500 Uniques and month, and 1,800 page views a day has 98% of users using IE.

IE is still the most widely used browser.
