Okay, I put a domain up for sale on the new namepros marketplace.

Got an email from RJ:
Good news, iowadawg. Your domain has a buyer!

Domain xrmo.com

Price $25

Buyer kc0203

Once the buyer has submitted payment you should arrange the transfer of the name.

Now for the weirdness.
I can not find this person on namepros...if anyone knows let me know.

Then I get an email from this person, wants me to move the domain from my godaddy account to his godaddy account.
Upon this being done, he will pay me via paypal once he is assured the domain is his!

Yeah right pal!
Like I will move a domain and then hope to get paid!

So beware of this character and any character who wants to buy your domain but tells you to move it first and the payment will follow (if ever) once ownership is assured.

So beware of any character who wants to sell his domain but tells you to pay first and the movement will follow (if ever) once payment is received.

Works both ways if you think about it. You just trust yourself more. Probably not worth outing him as a character to be wary of quite yet.. your reputation is far greater than his and nothing bad has happened.

Give them a chance.

Are you nuts?

I generally don't believe in warning an entire forum about a user because they may not understand the protocol of buying and receiving a $25 name sold at an NP auction before talking/messaging them.

You've basically publicly accused him of trying to steal a domain and your evidence for this is what? That you think he wouldn't pay? And you've also called him an IDIOT in public? Not exactly very mature or professional.. and now I'm NUTS?

Really? Are you nuts?

Why should he trust you with his $25 before you transfer the name? Because you have more rep? Because you are more trustworthy? Because that's how NP says it should work in their Q&D email saying your name was sold at auction?

<sarcasm>
Perhaps NP should enforce an escrow service or limit auctions to users with a certain rep/history to prevent any problems given how paranoid we apparently have become over low value transactions.

Well, if you believe a domain should be pushed prior to payment, then you go ahead and do so when you sell.

But the majority of domain sellers want payment up front or via escrow.

I will tell you in case you have no experience.
If you push a domain at either godaddy or namecheap and then do not get paid?
YOU HAVE LOST YOUR DOMAIN!!!!!

Again, you sell your way.

I'll bear that in mind. Next time someone suggests otherwise I will create a forum post calling them an idiot and a thief and warn all others away from them.

That will fix it.

hmm..... i see both sides here.

i can understand iowadawg's irritation and concern at being emailed to push the domain before payment..... i see this as risky not only because of the legitimate concern that, if pushed first he might never get the money (whereas a charge back risk is minimal due to the fee on buyers end.... would still be "paying $25 for it, just paypal would get the $, not iowadawg) BUT also specifically due to the fact that he was EMAILED about it, NOT requested to push first via PM..... meaning it COULD be anyone, and not just the legitimate auction winner, that emailed him and wants the domain pushed before payment.....

however, I also agree with defaultuser that the language (ie idiot) was unnecessary, and also the assumption that a buyer wants to receive the domain before paying is a scam to be unwarranted. It might "only" be $25 but, for lots of people, that is still a lot of money and he/she doesn't know you either regardless of your TR.

I initially expected a thread about someone emailing out of the blue expecting you to gladly just give/sell them a domain they wanted for virtually free. After reading it I got caught up in helping you locate the member here so you could contact them via PM to ensure it was them that emailed you and to clarify how the payment process works, at least a lot of the time and, specifically, how it was described in RJ's pm to you:
Once the buyer has submitted payment you should arrange the transfer of the name
and really overlooked what defaultuser pointed out very well, that it "could" be a simple misunderstanding and that jumping on the member with a negative thread really wasn't the best route... if it ever happens again please just do a member search and contact the member directly or contact staff and explain the situation. hopefully the two of you sort it out ok.
