the first person to LOSE money selling an ex-premium name at auction (I mean since this "land/gold rush" I KNOW plenty lost a LOT more and many MADE a lot more IMHO over the last 10 years of sideways movement IMHO)..

Yes.

I LOST money :)

On the bright side I did get a 72c click today on another so another 25 of those and I'll feel better.

Anyway. I wanted to leave Namepros a few weeks ago because I was a "lurker" who really thought that there was too much downside to the domaining world and not really enough upside. I really did want to leave. Then I found the buzz in here and I joined in the excitement. It's been fun. It's been interesting. I've learned a lot. I don't think my overall opinion has changed that much but I feel like I've come out the other end with a new admiration for those who do this for a living.. and more for those who share useful and interesting perspectives.

I'm going to be spending less time out here but I just wanted to thank the people that made the forum interesting and fun:

theDotStop and Jimbojimbo

those who provide excellent guidance..

equity, MrRhee, finster, and freedom.

Lastly I'd like to thank Jeff who posts at an extreme rate and needs to learn the difference between an Opinion and a Fact IMHO.

One of the few things that I have hated about this forum:

I'll be around... lurking :)

Which one was it? I hope it was not collectables.tv, I missed the end while working, and wanted to bid it up a bit.

Lots of people will lose on names recently acquired, that is how domaining is, win some, lose some. But least the extension is on a fairly equal footing to regular extensions now with the renewals. The number of people losing will be far lower than than in the past on the premiums.

Hey!
Who do you think you are???!!!

You can't leave now!
I was just learning how to to tolerate you.
You know I'm just kidding right???

You have some great insightful Posts,
AND
some lighthearted funny Posts too.

Out of the 10 - 12 or so Members here, who I absolutely truly look forward to reading their Posts, In your short time here, you became one of them.

As for the losing $, i dont think you lost anything at all.
You didnt make what you wanted to make on that domain but I dont believe you lost anything.
You bought emerge for $20. right?
It sold for $70. right?
Sedo gets their $50. (Arghhhh, I know that sucks)!
So, That leaves you with $20.00, That was your initial investment.
for your first .TV ever, Thats pretty damn good if you ask me.

One day I will blog about my miserable failure upon entering this crazy domain world. Not yet, I need to make a couple more good moves before I completely embarrass myself to the whole internet world, LOL

I think the real problem was you sold a domain that was close to your heart, that you had big visions for. Sometimes those are priceless, and I know you had plans for emerge so...I guess the problem was you maybe got a little excited beause of gettin a name in aution. Makes sense, but you didnt fail by any means. You still have some killer .TV's that you can develop, and your writings will definitely grab people no matter if it were named jjjjjjjjj.tv.

I didnt add Vito.tv into any of my available for aution lists because even if I got a 2K bid, I am sure I would be missing that one day soon, ya know?

and as for adding me to your list of people who made you stick around a little longer, I am truly grateful, and actually surprised cuz I figured everyone here had me on ignore also! LOL

Dont leave, I have a couple of cool domains I want to give you that you would probably love to develop...AnalPride.tv, and MaleGenitalia.tv :)

Thanks for spending the time here in the first place - much appreciated. Now go get on with a normal life!

YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO RETURN

I think you will find that as the auction simmers down and most people realise that the money is actually made out in the real world, people will quickly drift away or post less. However, this area will certainly have more life about it than it has ever had previously.

And I will be with you my friend, in lurker land, or using the time to actually do something useful with my new names.

I've certainly enjoyed the past three weeks - and for most of the people who've shared them with us - they have managed to acquire - if they listened carefully - some very good names at unbelievably low prices.

I hope you leave with a pocket full of goodies.

I feel I did ok - got some pretty good name (more than I can handle actually). I'm going to hold on to what I have for a while.

Going to commit to doing something with three of them. One I think it worth far more than I paid for it. One which I'm using as my Twitter handle (once I go back to that)... and some material for my "secret" blog.

I'm not that worried about the one that got away :) I made $20 on the sale (assuming they pay ...) which covered its purchase and I bought one to replace it that has more and different potential - certainly will be more educational for me in its deployment and money isn't an issue for me... it's more about learning...

Thanks for your comment. It was a pleasure reading your updates. I'll be around.

Hang in there. This forum is about people helping people. I started in this business in 1998 and bought my first .tv in July 2000 and lost more than I made for the first 7 years. I maxed out every credit card, got seperated from my wife for 9 months, it was hard. But you know what's harder, listening to people telling you what to do with there lives. Follow your passion and tell everybody else to go "fu#$k themselves.

I had many mentors along the way, because my friends, family, and neighbors told me to give up. Thank god, for my mentors who helped me and we are here to help you along the way. All you have to do is ask. Lot's of great people are this forum, people that know more than me, and I listen to them. Plus we are lot's of fun, crazy bunch:)

Thanks, JIm

I agree with this assessment. I have learned a lot from a few folks here who I hold in high regard. Made tons of mistakes in the beginning, but there really is no other way to learn. You just have to dive in and know when to cut losses and tweak your parameters for better decisions. There is lots more to learn, but the journey is what counts; not necessarily the destination.

Best,
A
