NNN.co are all taken up.
N to NNN.co are also taken up.
Every known pronounceable LLL.co has been registered.
Every known word ending with "co" has been registered.

What I see is .co is getting more famous then other IDN TLDs like .net .org etc

can you elaborate how you see that?

as for NNN/LLL be sure all of them in .net/org taken long ago
wholesale prices for random NNN/LLL.net/org are at least 100 times of those in .co

Probably 50% of all .co would qualify as 'inactive' (parked, registrar placeholder etc).
Plenty of domains were registered by speculators, that doesn't mean the TLD is good for domaining purposes.
It's like saying the state lottery is a good 'investment' because all tickets were sold... but there are few winning tickets and the amounts to be won are not that high.

.co is still a new tld so it would take some time to see some good websites with .co extensions. Plus many many domain names have already been registered which are even available on .org or .net or .im...so I said I see .co getting more famous then other IDN TLDs like .net .org etc

icann shows over 10mln .org and 15mln .net registrations
.co is probably nearing 2mln
i have no idea what .im is doing there..

so it's safe to assume there are more words registered in .org/net that are not taken in .co than vice versa

i can't see how .co is getting "more famous" from the above stats or maybe i don't completely get what you mean by "famous" in this context..

imho

I might be wrong. I said .co getting more famous because I see .cos unavailable for various names while .net or .org counterpart was available.

In addition to the fact that you always can find some few names registered in a "less famous" TLD which are available in a "more famous" TLD:

I doubt that many of those names are registered because .co in general is a great TLD. I rather believe that many of those names are simply registered because the .com owners want to protect their names against traffic grabbers. Since some users might mistype a domain when they hit enter one character too early, they end in the corresponding .co URL instead of the .com.

So, as long as this is a defensive registration, and it's simply a redirect to the .com URL, this doesn't say anyting about the .co popularity at all.

In contrast, there are many sites active in the .net or .org TLD simply because the TLD fits better.

There are some exceptions to this like g.co, but all together .co is far, far away from .net and .org

And I still don't understand what .im has to do with this.

...actually, it says VOLUMES about the .co popularity. It tells me that the .co domain name WOULD BE snapped up by an enduser if the .com SITE did not reg it.

As a matter of fact, there existS a new younger generation of visitors who are acclimated to the fact that there are other extensions besides .com and as far as google is concerned, they are recalibrating to the standards of the endusers that prove their site worthy REGARDLESS of what is at the right of the dot, NOT JUST HAVING the .com extension any longer.

To this I say - THANK YOU, GOOGLE...

from my perspective, .co is not a new extension.

it was only set free as the subdomain of .co.uk
