I need a professional appraiser who can appraise a domain of mine and provide a certificate of authenticity.

I am on a budget though so would prefer if you could do it for free :)

Thanks in advance!

A free appraisal? There is no such thing as a slightly-decent free appraisal. Stop being cheap :(

The cheapest "fee-based" appraisal with an appraisal certificate is a $5.99 one @ www.godaddy.com .

How much would you charge? I don't mean an appraisal website, I mean an individual willing to offer a good appraisal.

!

If you have been asked for one by a "potential buyer" watch out it is not the usual appraisal scam.

Can you tell me more about this scam? The offer was pretty high and the person wanted a $65 appraisal from a forum he pointed out to me.

You can post the email here and others will tell you if it is likely a scam or not.

did it go something like this ?

Hello,

I think you have not sold your domain name yet. I'm very interested in
it. Can you send your price for the domain?

Did you get offers from other people already?

I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and
databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Here it is:

Hello,

What is the price you can accept for your domain?

Our company develops client-server systems in Delphi and MS SQL Server. We work as contractors of a big corporation. So domain names for us is just a part of investing.

If you offer more domains for sale with good reselling potential please email us your list.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Regards,

I'd say it is very likely a Scam but wait and see what others have to say before you go any further.

Thank you for tipping me off! Just to let you know though, he offered me $10,000 for adequately.net :)

I will continue to see if he is interested in purchasing the domain just in case but I will not spend a dime on appraisals.

hahahah, respond and tell him "showbiz says hi deadbeat, where's my money?"

Your next email from him will be telling you that he doesn't believe that Afternic and Sedo appraisals are good, but a place called securenamesales gives good ones.

Yeah, its a scam. I had a very similar email.. he sends a link to a forum where they are bashing other appraisal services, and try and get you use a partucular service which the guy obviously runs. If he was buying domains for resell purposes, he would know what he was willing to pay without using a service.

He already has said that :) If it weren't for you guys I might have been duped!

I will now know to look out for these things but just for giggles, how much do you think adequately.net is worth?

I have replied to his latest email with the following:

Are you trying to scam me into using your overpriced domain appraisal services? Also, showbiz says, " hi deadbeat, where's my money?"

It is scam. I 100% guarantee it. I've received those scam emails often in the past -- they looked nearly identical to the one you received. ;)

Whois for ourplace . com says that Registrant Contact is in London.

I'm amazed at how much work goes into swindling people. I think everyone here has had (nearly) the same email.

Bad man!

Scams suck... the sad thing is there are a million ppl out there who's been scammed and millions more in waiting. As long as there are ppl to scam, scammers will try their best to screw them over.

For future reference, there is an appraisal forum in NP :)
