I need $500,000

Very long story so this is the short version. My parents (average middle class income) retired to the florida keys into a mobile home park. Invested $50,000 into the home (lot not included) and recently all 50 residents received eviction notices for july 15th of 07 to move out as the land owner is building high dollar condos. Affordable housing is a huge issue but I guess money is more important.

Anyway, I need $500,00 to buy my parents their own peice of property/new home here. They worked all their lives for this moment and it's being taken away and it only lasted a year. Land owner offered everyone $4,000 to leave but thats a joke. Many lawsuits are happening but the outlook doesnt look good.

Not expecting anyone to actually give me money, just feels good to tell the story.

So if you or your parents are looking to the florida keys for retirement, buy your own land/house. All the RV parks are quickly being bought out by big developers for million dollar plus condos and within the next few years there wont even be anywhere to camp.

Anyway, it really sucks and I wish I had the mula to buy them a place. I'll keep playing that powerball

Sorry to hear that. I know that land in certain parts of Florida is really cheap because my grandparents bought some land and built a nice little house for pretty cheap compared to buying their own house somewhere. With the real estate market the way it is I wouldn't be surprised if this might be the better option in terms of money.

Thanks, yeah it really is a heart break. Exactly why I'm venturing down every possible avenue for income. Fulltime job, domains, realestate etc. I'd like to be in the exact opposite position when I'm 60 years old. Kinda funny, people down here in the keys say buy this house or that one, its "only" $700,000

Sorry to hear about your parent bad news.

But I am not sure to understand your story:
Is not a "mobile home" mobile?

I suppose there are others nice areas in Florida where your parents can move without having to spend half a million dollars.
Maybe some of their friends can also move in this new place.

Florida lands with reasonable rental prices should exist.
Maybe you can help them find this new land.
There is a bunch of sites about rentals and local realtors can probably help you.

It's probably faster to find a good rental then find 500K!!!

The mobile home my parents bought is actually a 1999 RV on blocks. Hasnt been moved in 7-8 years and went through hurricane wilma. Would need new axle/brakes/tires etc.

Yes there are some very nice water front properties in NWest florida on canals etc they may be looking at. But I just want $500,000 so they can stay in the keys where their friends are and not have to worry about anything.

Fixing the RV (Axles, brakes, tires, ect.) would be a lot cheaper than buying a house.

I know what you mean, I want to buy my parents something big like that, but it's just no possible. They're already living in the RV, if they like it just pay to get new stuff for it.... it shouldn't cost more than $5,000.

Here's what to do to make some quick cash:
(I know people do this in the UK, not sure about the US or Canada though...)

1) Take out a mortgage for a house near a uni
2) Rent out the house for 8-12 months, making sure the monthly mortgage payments are covered and there is perhaps a little left over
3) Sell the house. By this time some of the mortgage would be paid off and house prices may have risen, so you'd have made a tidy profit.

Easy! In theory...

I got this idea from Dilbert... it might work.

1) Get approved for a credit card. (Dogbert got a Macy's card)
2) Use your credit history from that card to apply for Visa and Mastercard.
3) Soon you'll have credit cards from every bank in the world.
4) Then do a cash advance on every card, netting billions to form a world-wide lottery prize.
5) At this point, Dogbert suggests that everybody who supports him as supreme ruler of the Earth gets 1 free lottery ticket. :D But, in your case, offer a free lottery ticket to everyone that offers you a few thousand dollars, then just rig the lottery so nobody wins.

You can probably move the home with a rented flatbed. There are companies that I am sure specialize in mobile home moving. It might cost like $5k but imho you have no choice.
