discuss I am being hijacked - I am soooo upset!!

So... I have a little tracker ( https://www.thetrackr.com ) on my keychain and the thing is really not reliable. It uses bluetooth to communicate and that in itself sucks, wireless would be much better.

So knowing this tracker is not overly reliable I made a sticker with my cell phone number and stuck it on the tracker key tag just in case I ever lose my keys.

Well it happened.... I lost my keys and the tracker was absolutely useless, it told me the last location was the grocery store and I knew that. My wife and I went shopping and she drove home instead of me so I did not realize I misplaced my keys.

Try as I may all I could see was the last location of my keys, then last night I get a phone call from some dick who said he found my keys and he wants $100 to return them to me. He was calling from a phone booth and told me to put the money under a rock at a specific location. He said once he has the money he will place the keys in the same location and we will both be happy.

What an underhanded son of a Bi%$h this guy must be

I don't really have much choice because the key electronic key fobs from both of my cars are on there and they would cost a small fortune to replace.

Why in gods name would he not just ask me for a reward for his time and effort instead of making me go through these insane shenanigans?

Anyways.... I said I need to go to the bank to get a $100 dollar bill and I will put it there after work today. I am inclined to go wait there to find out who the jerk is but he could be there at any time during the night and I can't stay up all night for 100 bucks.

Hmm maybe the guy with the keys has kidnapped @MapleDots and is logged into the forum using @MapleDots log in details from Maples mobile phone, now he knows that Maples owns lots of domains and he is now standing over Maple with a pair of pliers threathening to extract his teeth one at a time unless he transfers all his domains over to him...AND give him the $100 he originally asked for!

I called the cops and was put through to an officer who said it is a lost and found issue. He said its not ethical but would be hard to prosecute. In other words..... WE DON'T CARE

You're kidding! Lost and Found eh? You should have asked them what department that is, and to please transfer you there.

Hmm maybe they don't deal with stolen/lost property below $5000, which is the threshold for convictions vs fines.

OK - UPDATE

I have my keys!!!

I went last night and put the money under the rock as instructed. I waited around for an hour and nobody came so I went home. Got a call just before 11pm asking where the money was. I freaked and thought I was being taken for a ride. Turns out I did not have the correct location. This time I was instructed to leave the money in a pop can. I went back (found my money) and had to go buy a damn pop (I don't drink this shit) and insert the $100 dollar bill.

Long story short.... I went back this morning and my keys were under the pop can squished between two rocks.

I am happy and relieved, but pissed off at the same time. I cannot say what I am annoyed at most, this idiot for making me go through this or trackr for putting out such a shity product.

I really need to find something that tracks keys with some kind of accuracy because this cloak and dagger shit just sucks.

No but funny you asked.... I felt almost sick to even touch the keys so I put some spray nine on a rag and cleaned them up. The idea of this guy having even touched my keys creeped me out.

Almost forgot.....

Last night I dreamt about this whole convoluted situation, it caused me quite a lot of grief. Not so much the money but the way it all went down.

Anyways in the dream I went to recover my keys and there was only one car fob with a note asking me for another $100. When I drove down this morning I said to myself what if that is a premonition and would I give up another hundred dollars.

Fortunately though, my keys were there and the first thing I did was click on a clip to attach them to my belt.
