I Just Need One Domain

I hope it's okay to post this since my goal isn't to buy/sell/flip a bunch of domains.

In 2012/2013 I purchased a domain and decided to let it lapse thinking I'd just buy it again later on when I was ready to do something with it. That's when I learned about companies that scoop up expired domains to resell. So mine was purchased by Huge Domains and has remained there since. I've watched the price hold at $2k for a long time, but it finally dropped to $1k. There is low/no demand for this URL as far as I can tell since they've not been able to sell it. I don't really want to spend anywhere near $1k for it either.

So the question is: Is it possible for me to use a domain broker(or other solution) to get that domain without paying that much? Is it worth the hassle to do that and take the risk that a middle man would hold it hostage to try to get more money out of me? I'd like to spend as little as possible to get it back. I've researched here and there and have read horror stories about the company that has my domain currently so I'm trying to be careful about how I approach this as I don't want the price to jump or for me to lose out on it forever.

I'd really appreciate any guidance on this.

Realistically, the options are to either buy the domain for the current price or don't.

HugeDomains owns millions of domains and don't generally negotiate much, especially on a $1K domain.

Also, I can't imagine a legit broker working on acquisition of a domain in that price range. I mean, what is the upside for them?

If the domain is meaningful to you, and you have the means, I would suggest just pulling the trigger.

I don't think Huge Domains negotiates, you'll have to pay the $1K. It's too bad you didn't hold on to the name.

Can you check its expiration date?

Based on my experience, if it's priced at its lowest, say $995, and its expiration is near, they will likely not renew it. In that case, it will go to a DropCatch Pre-Release auctions (since HugeDomains and DropCatch are both owned by the same company). DropCatch Pre-Release auctions is where they auction HugeDomains expired domains.

You can monitor whether they renew it. If you believe this domain is only valuable to you, you can wait for it to appear in the DropCatch Pre-Release auctions, where you may be able to bid and potentially acquire it for less than $1k.
Good luck!

Yeah I'm really kicking myself over it even 10 years later. That's why any friends I've helped with URL stuff I let them know to just renew cause it's cheap even if they aren't doing anything with it.

Mid July is it's renewal. So I could just wait until next year, but it would be nice to have now... And you're spot on that it's priced exactly at $995. Thanks for your response though! That gives me something to think about.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking too, but figured I'd ask. Appreciate the response!
