Hi to all namepros,

my first year in domaining is coming to its end, and therefore my first handregs will expire in no time :xf.eek:

Since I didn't made any sucess in selling (but enjoyed very much in every other aspect of domaining), I will probably let them all expire...

Over the first year I made very strong emotional tie with all of those names, so I would eventually keep just one or two of them.

In your opinion, are any of them worth keeping or I can just let them all go without regrets?

Thanks, friends

I like vrnfo.com, vrdlr.com, and vrmasterpieces.com

But like I always say, I am not a domainer I do not think like you . . .

Pardon me if my reply makes you sad. Your portfolio makes me remember my 1st year : 90% of my hand registered domains are junks, and i let them go away to cut lost. Here is my mistakes :
1> Investing in trending domains requires time and money ( may be at least 3-5 years). So if you wanna keep trending domains, you have to keep for long time, then maybe let them expired without any sells. It's domain game rule.
2> Investing in domains that we think that it can be sold but there aren't any Potential Buyers ( Who are holding similar domains that built real website on it in other ccTLD, gTLD ...). And totally they are junks.
3> Investing domain with the high-emotional. All of us always love the domains we find that they are available to register, then we register it without any researches for theirs background ( History, Hosting, Potential Buyers, ...). The worse thing is we keep this emotion when we decide which should be kept to renew, then we keep all - included 1 gems and tons of junks.
When i took a look to your portfolio and did a quick search, i saw that they were too long domains with non-premium trending names and there was not Potential Buyers for those domains. It's hard to makes profit with this portfolio.
You should do some researches to find gems in your portfolio, take your time to do that instead of creating a thread to ask which should be kept. Just YOU can answer it because each people have their own strategy. That's it.

I think a lot of what you said applies to me, unfortunately!

I am now trying to sell them via auction or buy it now at various sites. Since they are 2 year regs, I have some time . . . If I can recoup reg fees, Ill be happy. And if I sell them at a loss, Ill be disappointed. But I won't throw good money chasing them. Worst case scenario is they expire.

I don't see any in the list that I would want to renew. I advise you save your money to purchase new names instead of trying to make these work.

Good advice above from @GeorgeQuang

Best of luck

If I had these, Iโ€™d keep 3Dprintall, Mrvelous, VRdlr.

Thank you guys for your help and valuable advices. I just wanted to hear your opinions which I respect a lot, before I let them drop.

Actually, I've done some research about those names. Most valuable indicator for me is Godaddy's Whois Inquiries feature. According to that, during last year 3dprintall and vrnfo had most inquiries. Some of you pointed at them as well. They are my favorites too (along with vrmasterpieces), so maybe I'll keep one of them.

In the months to come I will drop great deal of my portfolio but carry on with studying and learning, financially unburdened. I still enjoy in domaining very much.

Thank you again

Here come a few more cents! You already have them registered and I dont think you have to select only 1 or let them all drop . . . unless YOU want to do that. IMO if you are with GoDaddy, you are talking $10ish to renew and maybe less at a place like Uniregistry, so small peanuts for a few domains. You could also reach out to GoDaddy and let them know that you will let them expire unless you get a deal! Lastly, Uniregistry allows for privacy for free, with your registration.

Drop them all and decide if you want to continue domaining or pursue another venture.

Good luck.

Why do you think so?

Do you actually know what proportion of those inquiries comes from bots, and not from potential buyers?

What you'll often see with expiring domains is a sharp increase in WHOIS inquiries.
How do you know those hits are not coming from registrars' bots, trying to dupe you into believing that it's worth renewing?

Instead of letting them drop, you could throw them in an auction here and sell them as a packaged deal...

You may get a few dollars back if you feel it's worth the little bit of hassle starting an auction... imo

In domaining, there is nothing which will sell 100% and you don't know what will sell when. I have sold and seen some names which apparently has no sense.
Put yourself in the buyers shoe and ask, why will I buy this domain and what can be made from this. If you get a satisfactory answer and have a good instinct, keep the name if your budget permits.

Good suggestion.

Some people should stop domaining while there is cash in their pockets. It's a hard pill to swallow but it's reality; that person might just be you.

Register as a business and write off your yearly registration fees. If I make 10k a year and have 1k in renewals I only pay income tax on 9k. If anyone does not report their income from domaining they are taking a massive risk. The government monitors paypal now and the paper trail for paypal, escrow etc is easy to follow.

My advice.... register a business... write of your expenses. If you go broke you will even get a tax break.

There is no way to distinguish bots from real inquiries, but results are from the last 8 months. Some statistical pattern is visible.

Auction is a good idea, I might try it. Some of the domains expires tomorrow, 09th of april, is it still possible to conduct auction for them?
