Hello,

here is the story :

a "New Member" has created a new thread in the "Domain Buyer Requests" Section, he asked for Hostility.com or Hostilities. com or similar domains for $5,000 .. thread url : https://www.namepros.com/threads/wtb-hostility-hostilities-com-budget-up-to-5-000.1357592/

i contacted him and i tried to close a deal with him, but i realized that both domains were available for sale .. so i told him that .. and i asked him to contact the owners .. but i saw that both names were listed under 6-figure & make offer .. so both names were out of his budget.

he started to motivate me .. so i told him that i will try to negotiate for one of those names for him ... i started my search .. i found that one of those names was listed for sale at another marketplace for $XXX .. so i purchased the name for him to get extra profit.

i thought that he was honest and serious person .. but i was wrong .. he was the owner of the name .. he created a scam thread in the requests section to sell his name : S : S

he posted a first thread here with his first account and he offered his name for sale for $xxx .. url : https://www.namepros.com/threads/ho...expires-07-2026-free-namebright-push.1357513/

when ho got no buyers .. he started to scam us .. he created another thread with a new account in the requests section and he asked for the same name after few hours .. he was trying to sell his name with his second scam thread .

namepros is a trusted community and i am using it for very long years .. this thread got no offense to namepros , but this is a warning to everybody so we could be more careful in such situations ..

i hope namepros moderators could take some action with both accounts of this guy .. he added privacy to his account now.

thanks.

In end you know there is one person you can 100% trust..... YOURSELF!

How does a real escrow actually work though? I thought there was some sort of licensing where not just anyone can open up their own escrow biz.

As far as I understand there might be some gatekeeping in the US where you need a government licence in order to offer "escrow services" (or some parties simply make it seem so), but at the core, escrow is just any transaction with a man in the middle who first takes the goods and the money from both parties, and then releases them to the opposite parties after collecting a fee. It's not rocket science and while it's always better to have some badge of trust (be it a government licence or just a proven track record), it's generally not required.

I think you knew you were being scammed(You hinted at it yourself), but you didn't want to believe it. It's like when publishers clearing house sends you emails and you want to believe they will show up at your door with a big check and a nice car.

The scammer, played on your greed and desperation for money...
You know if you could find the listing, then imagine the guy or gal requesting the name- they would have found that long before you.

  1. The trick is - work with someone or create multiple accounts....
  2. list the domain for sale at a decent price - not too high
  3. from a different account, put in a buyer request for the said name...
  4. wait for a naive fish to bite the bait...(you sir were not naive) you were something else- with all due respect- because you knew better.
  5. Drooling on the opportunity to flip the name and resell it for a big prophet.. you bit the bait.. line, hook and sinker. (you could have showed integrity and integrity would have saved you too) like her bro.. the name is here for sale.. here's the link.. buy now. but no... lemme get this bag... (Your own lust for money in any which way is what got you.. not the scammer).
The lesson from this is to learn and build up your own character. Because you knew better and still got scammed.
Scammers will always be around... but put integrity over profit next time and you will win or avoid being scammed. Nobody is perfect, including myself. but the one lesson i learned in life is this: put the responsibility on yourself, rather than on others and you will never be a victim to anyone.

For Namepros and other members: I have said this before and people pushed it aside...
When you see an account with absolutely no reviews, putting up elon musk money requests, like i will pay 50-100k for your name.. always be cautious. I can almost guarantee that more than 80% of those are scammers.

I think namepros should put in a system where you must atleast have 5 good reviews before you can do a massive deal. and if someone is new... do a verification on them before they can make such massive requests. privately, like hey, we have to uphold the integrity of our platform.. we must know you are who you say you are... so if something bad goes down.. we know exactly who you are. and hopefully avoid that all together.

But i must admit- that's a shytload of work to do......and namepros isn't escrow...
So each person needs to step up and do your own due dilligence.

The scammers that make the most unregulated food in the world, have taken over Namepros...
"The scammers that make the most unregulated food in the world, have taken over Namepros..."

The above statement is not an allegation against NamePros, but a direct suggestion/advice to the management that they should put check valves on new members and save the honest members from potential scammers. @Alfa Mod Team
