I got scammed here at namepros by another user, read to learn

Hello,

here is the story :

a "New Member" has created a new thread in the "Domain Buyer Requests" Section, he asked for Hostility.com or Hostilities. com or similar domains for $5,000 .. thread url : https://www.namepros.com/threads/wtb-hostility-hostilities-com-budget-up-to-5-000.1357592/

i contacted him and i tried to close a deal with him, but i realized that both domains were available for sale .. so i told him that .. and i asked him to contact the owners .. but i saw that both names were listed under 6-figure & make offer .. so both names were out of his budget.

he started to motivate me .. so i told him that i will try to negotiate for one of those names for him ... i started my search .. i found that one of those names was listed for sale at another marketplace for $XXX .. so i purchased the name for him to get extra profit.

i thought that he was honest and serious person .. but i was wrong .. he was the owner of the name .. he created a scam thread in the requests section to sell his name : S : S

when ho got no buyers .. he started to scam us .. he created another thread with a new account in the requests section and he asked for the same name after few hours .. he was trying to sell his name with his second scam thread .

namepros is a trusted community and i am using it for very long years .. this thread got no offense to namepros , but this is a warning to everybody so we could be more careful in such situations ..

i hope namepros moderators could take some action with both accounts of this guy .. he added privacy to his account now.

Nothing wrong with namepros! Guy had zero feedbacks, major red flag! That's why namepros feedbacks matter. Most people here would NOT deal with zero feedbacks guy. You did not follow namepros guides and had a deal with zero feedback guy.

At the risk of sounding like a victim-blamer, you were a little bit at fault here.

Here comes a buyer. He requested for a specific domain name. Said domain name was already for sale with a lander stating the same.

The domajn name does not belong to you.
He didn't want an alternative domain name. Just that specific one.
He's on a large domain name forum so he knows how things work.

There is ZERO reasonable excuse for you to be involved in the transaction. If he wanted a broker, you could have used his own money and taken a commission. Not risk your own money.

Consider the $$$ your tuition fee for a very valuable lesson.

Update: It should be noted that, one should be on high alert when they see a domain buyer request for a specific domain name and should do some due diligence before engaging with the buyer or agreeing to purchase a domain based on their promise to buy it from you after you acquire it.

The buyer could easily find a domain name sales page to contact the owner directly, themself (Or by using whois).

Technically, it's not a rule violation to start a domain buyer request for a specific domain, since they haven't actually broken a rule (yet, or if/when applicable).

After they break a rule, a moderator can then get involved to try and help mediate.

In this case, moderators were alerted to suspicious activity, investigated, and found that the buyer agreed to purchase a domain, but after the seller acquired the domain, they changed their mind.

At that time, the buyer violated the rules by failing to honor a binding purchase agreement.

Currently, they have 24 to 48 hours to do the right thing and purchase the domain for the agreed price.

Due to the above rule violation, an additional investigation was conducted which identified an associated account with a Gold member. Gold members are allowed to have 1 free or blue account as long as all the accounts are in good standing.

In this case, if the buyer fails to honor the agreement, all the accounts will no longer be in good standing, the associated account will be closed and the original infracted + restricted for security reasons.

It's our hopes that they decide to do the right thing within the 48 hours provided to avoid any further actions.

Scammers have it easy these days because all day long we’re getting hit with messages telling us making money is super easy. That one guru I won’t name keeps telling people to “flip” things if they need quick cash. Sure, some people make money flipping, but most people just end up flipping out. Back in my day when they said to flip something, they meant flip some burgers.

It doesn’t matter what app or website you’re on, scammers are crawling all over the place. Look at the comments on YouTube and you’ll see them running little theater shows with fake accounts talking to each other about some crypto trader who’s making them 50 percent a day. People fall for it because they just finished watching twenty videos from gurus saying it’s easy to make 100k a day. The story goes if you want even more than that you’ll only need to work thirty minutes a week, and with AI you can cut that down to five seconds. Of course, all you need is their course.

When the course flops, don’t worry. Just hire a manifestation guru. They’ll teach you how to manifest anything you want. Apparently if you really want it, the universe will hand it to you. I guess most of the world living in constant suffering just doesn’t want a better life bad enough.

Even smart people are falling for scams now. We’re all human and we need to stay sharp or get eaten alive.

Man, you just fell for the oldest scam in the book.

And I don't mean to blame the victim, as scammers shouldn't be doing this, but you still need to be a lot more careful in 2025.

One key is to 'not get greedy' as greed clouds the mind and allows scammers to pull you down the road to ruin. Your simplistic desire for "extra profit" allowed Mr Scammer to rip you off, when the ethical thing to do would be to let him know the domain was available for $XXX and his scam would be obvious.

So by being a greedy SOB, you easily fell into his trap.

Let me tell a story here, I thought it might be a scam.
I got an afternic congratulation email saying 1 of my domain sold. But I looked it up, the domain expired and I did not renew it. The registrar sent me a link to contact the new owner... So I was thinking maybe the new owner got the domain from me after expiration and he was trying to sell it back to me and placed a fake buy order....and After I buy the name from him again, he will can cancel the order.

But no surprise/drama here, the new owner has been simply ignoring me
