I'm not trying to start another heated discussion. Since the other discussion (2010) I started to think about why I feel so strongly about .mobi, and I saw a few previous posts stating that ".mobi believers" are just hoping that the extension takes off so that we can make money from our domains.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have had an internet enabled phone for close to three years now (spint PCS unlimited internet access $15/month) and I have tried ebay, local newspaper sites, looking up and reg. domain names, myspace, checking lotto#'s etc.. and even though I had the internet access, and wanted to go online, I barely do because of the hassle with having to sift though a bunch of garbage and ads just to get the little information I want. So for me .mobi offers HOPE in that respect.

I just have 10 .mobi domains and even if .mobi became 3X as big as .com I still wouldn't get rich from selling my .mobi names.

Yes I am a domainer, but I am also among the first batch of people trying to access the internet with my cell phone. and until .mobi it didn't seem possible to distinguish a line between PC sites and mobile sites.

In my eyes .mobi has already started to draw that line.

Time will tell and it least with the 2 years of reg. that gives plenty of time.

i agree it will be very interesting to see if .mobi can prevail. one thing for sure ios that it is coming out at the right time, but we need some large players in the marketplace to adopt, use and PROMOTE the .mobi extension.

i was driving into work today and heard an orbitz commercial promoting their mobile web (check flight status, reservations, etc. on the go)... i waited and hoped that i would hear a .mobi address at the end of the commercial, but they are using mobile.orbitz.com (they just as easily could have used orbitz.com/mobile, wap.orbitz.com, phone.orbitz.com etc.) If others use the likes of ebay.com/cell, mobi.yahoo.com, www.careerbuilder.com/mobile - then all the different options will help a simple .mobi stand above the rest.

a couple of big guys like orbitz using the .mobi is exactly what is needed to make it a success, but until a few of them adapt it will be a tough uphill climb.

just my 2 cents

Orbitz did get orbitz.mobi, so they must have some plan to it. I think if domainers will just cool their heals and give this mobi thing time to progress, in a 7-8+ months things will start looking differently. It seems that since domainers have boughten all these domains, they feel there should be an 'instant presence' of the mobi extension out there to justfy their purchases of their .mobi's. We all have two years before renews, so why some want it up and massively promoted with maybe 200 mobi sites now available, is beyond comprehension I feel.

Its not a question of building sites to justify the purchases of .mobi domains. I have advertising up on them, they are garnering traffic and already earning money.

If you want to wait to develop then thats up to you :)

If you didn't want to make money out of .MOBI, then you wouldn't have registered the domains that you have.

I'm sorry, but whether .COM, .CO.UK, .NET, .EU, .ORG or even .MOBI, I cannot believe that you or anyone else is not here to try to make money. As enjoyable and challenging as Domaining may be it's simply not practical.

These are the posts where you have listed your domains for sale/appraisal :guilty: :-

It's not bad of you to want to make money out of .MOBI at all... it's just that there's no point in pretending that some of your domains were not bought in mind of value and potential to sell. Whether it be for a small and comfortable profit or a BIG sum of money.

On to your other point, I admire your enthusiasm of .MOBI. It is people like you who can make or break an extension. Just remember though, for a domain extension to be useful or classed as a success, it doesn't have to be the most well known domain extension on the planet. :tu:

Peace. :)

Of coarse I would like to make money with .mobi. I am a domainer, and I DO buy and sell domain names for profit. I never denied that fact. I was simply stating that my reasoning for the success of .mobi goes beyond just the domain names and making money. If that wasn't clear in my first post I am clarifying it now.

Cheers :]

.mobi needs developers, so develop your .mobi domains into a good website and attract visitors to come back on your website then the value of .mobi will increase :)

The key question is HOW?

I just published DotComs.mobi (appropriate for NPr's) and plan on doing at least one or two more in the near future.

I don't think you will hear anyone promoting their .mobi because it isn't seen as "just another tld".

I noticed several times now dotmobi people using the terms mobiready and .mobi enabled. My guess is that Nokia and Ericsson will being coming out with a system similar to AOL's keywords.

So we will see new ads like:
To see our travel deals murf (= mobile surf :hehe: ) to Orbitz, keyword travel
where the keyword would redirect to travel.mobi.

Just a hunch...
