Ok so everybody knows about .com. BUt this .mobi thing I dont know much about. People with phones who can access the internet from their phones have to use the .mobi extension to access the internet? Thats my understanding of this but maybe im wrong...I see .mobi one word names selling on sedo now and I found some one word names that are only popular in other cultures/countries other than USA where I live. Do you think its worth registering these? I mean do you think .mobi will really take off in Europe/Asia???? I guess what im trying to say is..is .mobi the only option that you can use to access the internet from a mobile device? or can they still access .com? If that is the only way that europeans and asians can access it, then I guess it would be a good idea to register these names im thinking of.

mTLD is headquartered in Dublin and largely the brainchild of Nokia from Finland. Many larger European companies like banks and newspapers have already launched their mobi sites. Also many mobi domain investors are in Europe as well. Lot's of activity in China also, but unfortunately most that is reported is the shady stuff like tm fraud. I've seen other news from India and Australia, and the US and Canada as well of course. .mobi truly is a global tld, though for now it is only using the standard English character set. Hope this helps, feel free to PM if you have further questions.

read through the site a little and i'm sure you will get the response your looking for.
no, you can access a dot com site from your mobile phone, but dot com's not being very mobile friendly was the main reason why .mobi was created
yes i think the names are worth regging, just make sure you use common sense when buying
personally i think .mobi will do better in Europe/Asia than in usa. so yes.

no and yes

my advice stay focused, purchase wisely. use common sense. :$: WAZ :$:

Mobile phones can access .com or any other extension. Most .coms are not optimized for mobile browsers, which can make them very hard to navigate. Some .coms will detect you are using a phone and redirect to a mobile friendly page that works great on your phone.

How do you know which .coms do this? You don't.

How do you know which .mobi site works well with a phone? They all do.

This is an oversimplified explanation, but you get the idea.

If this is oversimplified then oversimplified is good :)

And our fellow NP member Yelo came up with a sort of an executive summary of the 'oversimplified' version, which personally I think is better than any other .mobi marketing slogan I've seen:

Yelo said:
.Mobi = works on all phones
For those new to this forum: Yelo's original thread is here (his other writing is quite deep, you don't necessarily need a PhD in James Joyce to follow it but it would probably help in making the most of it):
