.tv I been thinking..Biggest Risk In .Tv - Worries Me

Hi,

As we know Justin.tv and the likes the biggest concern and worry for all of us that are either domainers or .tv developers is this:

1. Running .tv web cams in either delayed or REAL time I am very worried on the abuse by people across the world. People will do mean things on realtime video, abuse the websites, running xxx stuff on a family.tv or things like this.

How can a company with a small budget be monitoring .tv users?

Disadvantage of running real time webcams on a .tv platform.

This really worries me so much that I see this eventually happening-giving .tv domainers Huge challenges and having a good reputation with users that dont abuse the system.

When there are 500 users on any given .tv social graph platform how are you suppose to monitor each ones views? You can have an abuse email being sent to the admin or the owner of the user. But that wont work that great. I am sure users will do this but if you get a few apples on the sites its just going be a huge cluster.

So does anyone know any software that monitors .tv users and abuse in users being naked in realtime on a family.tv site for instance. If so can you mention the software or website, how it does, how it filters and the price?

I am not a developer-just a ecommerce guy and business owner....

This is my biggest risk and worry on .tv growth....

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I don't see these risks having any negative impact on .TV growth.

Maybe I am over reacting but it does worry me...For example-myspace and there bad press...censorship, etc....

if .tv owners dont censorship video use-i feel its going have bad press, nbc nightly news down the road will do under cover things on video sites and the abuses...

point being it worries me.....

are there any video censorship programs out there that red flags users and abuse? now if there are companies going after this market and safety of video users then it wont damper us as much...

I agree.

Besides, there are more than a couple of hundred TLD's available all of which can have video and everything else.

hmm...maybe it is an over reaction by me???...0 for 2 lol.....

to .tv developers-i need specific software programs in this important issue-i would rather have a software program that monitors things and knowing at least I am controling this issue-it may not filter all the bad apple users but at least I know I am trying for my future site going out next year....

Being in control of your own website and owner/licensee of video content/streaming to your users should suffice. Once you relinquish control of this aspect is where the problems may or may not seep in.

You are right Roy the key is controlling your content anything else is poor mans You Tube IMO. CONTROL the content and you are in control and its all on you to make it work or not

Publish your policies clearly in your TOS and have you members agree to them. Hold your members to it and ban them if they violate it. This goes for any type of content: text, audio, or video.

If that doesn't work remember what the internet is for in the first place. (Thanks Avenue Q!)

Coming from a marketing background, I've always been taught that there is no such thing as bad press.

That's surly another way at looking at this. Bad press dosent hurt

I still want to know if there are software ware vendors where they they censor things or red flag users

So let's say you want to be in control sneakers.

You ban the bad element, you do the registration form and policies

Let's say I came up with a powerful business model and I won't announce my theme or what I am to on development right now

So there are 1000 users on site aaaaaaaaa.tv and I am self funding this venture or raised a small round of angel money.

So how is a small company going monitor users and there video content? Obviously 2 human eyes can't police this volume during working hours and or while I am sleeping??

Really need advice on monitoring bad elements and there video content weather it be in real time or minor delay.

Some good discussion going on here. Keep them coming inn.

I still feel though if you can't monitor that type of traffic at any given time your in trouble, users will complain, there goes your traffic and close up shop. All this hard work for nothing.

Now the bad press is a good thing issue. That's another whole thread by itself. Does myspace.com and having bad press means a good thing? The only thing it means to me is that it creates a bad image on themselves to the general public and the NBC dateline shows and chat room factors. I don't want to be in that area since I don't have big budgets, 5 million bucks in vc money to monitor video, programmers and etc

So please list the software vendors who do this for you before your image and branding falls apart

There has to be .tv developers, the geo owners that are developing web cam stuff domainers in this thread that worry about this every day?? Or am I the odd one lol.

Keep them coming inn!

I was watching Justin.tv and the lifecaster was watching another lifecaster having live sex and spreading her link around. I hear that if Justin.tv catches any sexual or illegal content then they shut it down your account. However this ran for a good hour or so before it was caught. It's hard to monitor everything. They've put in place logins and I am over 18 buttons to click before you enter but beyond that its fair game.

Self monitoring is going to be very important I think in our .tv future but when it gets too big I think we'll have to rely on our online communities we have built. For instance the creator of 'hot or not' used to monitor it himself with the help of his parents but it became too big of a task so they had their community rate them. They cared enough about the website to help filter the content. He also assigned moderators. Once you grow I think it will be too time consuming to monitor. I don't know what kind of software might be able to recognize this you need humans to do that unless theirs has some kind of swear voice recognition.

I been thinking about the rating program and relying on that. Or people that report bad elements. Or have a rewards program in place and earn points in helping get rid of bad elements. All these will help heavily

Now human monitoring is expensive. Not really sure if want to take that up early on until the numbers and ads and sponsors show huge growth.

Can probably off shore monitoring and time zones for peOple to monitor but I don't want that really or rely on that.

Shocked it took Justin an hour to get rid of that sex stuff. Maybe an hour is fast. I do own free porn channel.tv lol if anyone wants to develop that and buy name.

I guess what I am concluding is relying on your community and keeping the image and having a fun, enjoyable site

No right answer or 1 answer to this or the complexity of things. My web guy is top notch and he has ways to filter most of this but comes at a very hefty price.

Yeah, i think it is hard for justin to keep track of 24 hour activities of hundreds of people haha!
This does look like it would be expensive to monitor.
I think there is alot of potential for online security type businesses to develop even moreso now with the advent of all this livecam/lifecast. Good luck to your project.

the control could be done very effective and very cheap(for free) - just use the social networking system and let others on the channel vote about it,and flag it if inappropriate content is in it.
it is used on many sites and it works very well, hope I have understand you right

Could you post specific links to networking stuff that you know

I am sure people would love to see some examples

Would be a huge help if you could

The above post, yes that security factor would be a great addition form a software firm. Even the common social networks would like this I am sure or smaller players in .com and of course video social networking

on youtube on the videos player page, for instance here ,

just below the video window on right side is the Flag button.

so there could the members send to youtube the info about the inappropriate content

and very similar on the others too.as I know the mass consciousness works very good for this .
