please don't! :yell:

I think you may be biting off more than you can chew, it is a very involved process and would require a lot of money, knowledge and connections. It would in no way be a one-person job.

How can it be that hard and cost so much...Love that you are all laughing at me now :)

Wish you luck.

Wish you luck. I like this one .world for world domination. The extension to take out all extensions, well until .universe comes out.

In all seriousness it is a great money making idea.

There are already so many, one more isn't going to hurt anything and you might have some fun.

I am curious to hear more about your extension ? If you have strong justification and lots of cash it may be possible.

you might want to chck out the sTLD route. Politially easier route to approval. If you are able to act as a sponsoring organization that would manage and front the cost of running the registry. (Association, Company with a few thousand (minimum)customers) The key to getting a new extension is to demonstrating that there is a demand and it would be successful.

I had no idea

So many extensions already existed and yes, the one I thought of already exists.

New.net was unable to perform searches though and I will be looking again to see what is out there.

Netzilla: What do you mean by "Lots of cash". Tens of thousands, hundreds, millions? Just curious.

BTW I am new here. My name is Kristen and I own some great names...which I had gotten some early on but who new they would be a whole new stock market in themselves.

Hi!

if it wasn't that hard or cost so much then everyone would have their own extension! ;)

Two ideas for brand new extensions because its a good idea:

How about .biz for business? Tons will reg that and it will be worth tons because it means "business". Or maybe .name for people's names - how could you go wrong because 4 billion people have names!

Sorry for the sarcasm. It actually was a fair question and it was informative to hear the answer.

Interesting and though still financially out of the reach, realistically, for most ... good comments IMHO. A little additional research on Google lead me to this: Public Comments for Proposed Sponsored Top-Level Domains (sTLD's) 3/31/04:
http://www.icann.org/tlds/stld-apps-19mar04/stld-public-comments.htm

Some of the opinions and comments in there are classics (and still hold true today, IMHO), such as "Unnecessary segmentation of the Internet", "The ghettoizing of phones and mobile devices to segregated namespaces is unnecessary and counterproductive", and "It is the essence of the ICANN mandate to protect the Internet community from such predators", etc.
Good reads! :gl: :imho:

Hi!

I might misunderstood your post , but if you think that new.net extensions are like the regular extensions , you should think again ...

they require a special plug-in in the browser to resolve that not many people have and veeery few would actually put on since it basically gives new.net the ability to manage how all TLDs resolve in the browser ...

new.net TLDs are not directly recognized by ICANN ... in fact (unless someone puts that plug-in) they are actually subdomains under new.net
