Hyphens get no respect ....

Why is something like QZX (.com, .net .org) worth more than something like G-R in the same extension (.com, .net .org) ? And yes, I have seen these undesirable 3 letter names transact, while the dash names do not.

There are 17,576 combos for the thre letters

There are 676 combos for the hyphen

Matching end users to a hyphen has got to be many times easier and more likely.

I know that there are issues with SEO and searches, but these issues don't really apply to acronyms that much, and in some cases could work the other way if branded properly.

I would think a hyphen would be worth roughly the same as the least desirable letters. Obviously I am way off the mark here, I just don't understand it.

This looks like a legacy issue. The problem is that with long standing sales data and so few transactions the values will likely remain depressed for many years.

Dont think that these names should be in this list as they are IDN's.

today on the radio I heard a company advertise it's website, simply stating their domain by using the word "dash". It sounded fine. I think one reason those type of domains were not heard on the radio until lately is because the perception was that most people wouldn't get it, but now that is changing so popularity of dashes should be accelerating a bit. However one wrinkle is some domains look good with dashes but don't sound very good using the word "dash", so I think end users will want to make sure it passes the "rolls off the tongue" test.

Your right, however, since the title of the thread is hyphens get no respect, I thought I'd add a few IDN's to illustrate the growing importance dashes.
