What is a Hyphen ?

The hyphen (‐) is a punctuation mark used to join words and to separate syllables of a single word. The use of hyphens is called hyphenation. Although, as mentioned above, hyphens are not to be confused with en dashes and minus signs, there are some overlaps in usage (in which either a hyphen or an en dash may be acceptable, depending on user preference; discussed below) and in character encoding (which often uses the same character, called a "hyphen-minus", to represent both the hyphen and minus sign entities; discussed below).

So in a clear attempt to find out whether hyphened domains do have any value, rather than us lot just believing they do, I have put up an auction here on NP a single domain starting at just $1. The domain name is:

State-of-California.com

So it is a .com, yes it has two hyphens but they are singular and separating the three words in the domain. Let us see if there is even a buyer out there for what I consider to be a 'good hyphenated domain'.

I should also say that I have posted a thread on the appraisal section asking for values for the unhyphenated version 'StateOfCalifornia.com' so we can see how differently members here value the two domains.

This could be an informative experiment for all of us.
